WWE TLC 2014 Results: Losers Who Will Rebound at Royal Rumble

Sharon GlencrossDec 16, 2014

While several wrestlers on the roster may have suffered crushing losses at the TLC pay-per-view, their fans shouldn't be too disheartened. Indeed, expect the grapplers to successfully rebound next month at the Royal Rumble event.

WWE will surely want to keep these performers strong as it begins to prepare for WrestleMania 31 in March.

Dean Ambrose

Dean Ambrose’s career suffered a setback when he lost to Bray Wyatt due to an exploding television monitor. The only impressive thing about this is that the company actually managed to devise an even more bizarre match conclusion than the hologram-ghost distraction at Hell in a Cell.

Poor Ambrose. He’s been stuck with some truly ridiculous creative material in 2014. He may deserve an Oscar just for getting through all this with a straight face.

Despite the rather absurd booking, Ambrose is still an amazingly talented performer—and one who can be a significant part of the company going forward.

WWE truly does have something in him; the writers just have to return to the roots of his character and stop booking him in nonsensical angles.

A strong—and lengthy—showing in the Royal Rumble's 30-man Battle Royal match next month should be the first big step in rehabilitating his damaged career.

He may even manage to pull out the victory and earn a spot in WrestleMania 31's main event. WWE has shown in the past that it likes to surprise viewers with its Royal Rumble winners—and Ambrose winning would certainly be unpredictable.

AJ Lee

AJ Lee failed in her attempt to win back the Divas Championship from Nikki Bella after the Bella twin nearly blinded her with a hidden bottle of hairspray. Throw in Ambrose’s adventures with the TV monitor, and TLC was certainly one of the most weirdly booked PPVs of recent times.

Don’t be too surprised if Lee takes on Bella again at the Royal Rumble—and wins. While Bella is a decent character and has a high profile in mainstream entertainment thanks to her stint on Total Divas, it’s clear now that she’s not cut out to carry the women’s division.

She just doesn’t have the wrestling skills or in-ring presence. Notably, her matches with Lee have been extremely disappointing, even with Lee doing her very best to carry the less-talented Bella.

WWE has to recognize by now that giving the belt back to Lee, the company’s best all-round female performer, is the best thing for the division.

Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins may have lost to John Cena in their Tables match, but don’t count out the performer just yet. Crucially, he still has his Money in the Bank title shot.

With this in mind, Rollins performing a run-in when Cena fights Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and cashing in his title shot doesn’t sound outside the realm of possibility.

Not only would this be good for Rollins’ career—he really does need to win the belt very soon or will be at risk of growing stale—it would also add some much-needed excitement and unpredictably to an otherwise tired and potentially boring Cena-Lesnar bout.
