WWE Storyline Climaxes That Should Be Saved for WrestleMania 31

Ryan DilbertDec 16, 2014

If WWEand its fansare patient, WrestleMania 31 can be flush with remarkable moments.

Stories of rebellion, a monster falling and a brute suffering defeat are already loaded in the cannon. The company can choose to fire them early, but the grand stage of WrestleMania is their ideal home.

The Show of Shows is still over three months away, so it's going to take some slow-burning storytelling to hold off the end of these narratives. The reward for not pulling the trigger before WWE hits California's Levi's Stadium is great.

In the way that a game-winning touchdown pass is big during the regular season and legacy-making in the Super Bowl, WrestleMania moments ring louder and longer.

That should inspire WWE to milk Damien Mizdow's tension with The Miz, Rusev's winning streak and Brock Lesnar's reign as world champ, wrapping up those tales at The Showcase of the Immortals.

Rusev Loses

The longer Rusev goes without being pinned or forced to submit, the more significant that eventual defeat becomes.

He has proved to be a dominant force in taking out WWE's biggest and most powerful warriors. After he outlasted Jack Swagger, Big Show and Mark Henry, it's clearly going to take a special effort to defeat him.

Big E collides with Rusev.

The moment some babyface knocks him off his throne is going to be an unforgettable one.

He's getting to the point where it's hard to imagine who is capable of beating him. That means WWE can either give an up-and-comer the biggest achievement of their career or bring in a big name to battle him.

The Rock comes to mind for that second option. While The Great One certainly doesn't need the rub of besting Rusev, should he walk away the victor but be too injured to hold on to the U.S. title, that benefits The Bulgarian Brute in a major way.

Having Ryback or someone else take the United States Championship off Rusev before WrestleMania arrives just wouldn't be as momentous. The size of the stage and the brightness of the lights of that event magnify everything.

Regardless of whom Rusev faces, should he remain undefeated until next March, that bout will be the biggest U.S. title match in recent memory.

Damien Mizdow Gets His Freedom

The Miz and Mizdow are already bickering. The Miz is jealous of his stunt double, who routinely gets more affection from the crowd.

WWE has done a brilliant job of building anticipation for Mizdow's eventual breakup with his boss.

Fans roar for Mizdow and boo for The Miz harder than he has ever experienced. It's tempting to split up the duo now and take advantage of Mizdow's popularity, but this can be a career-making moment for Mizdow.

Stretch out their tension until WrestleMania. Have the story become Mizdow wanting to break away from The Miz to prove that he's better than the man he works for.

The Miz is confident that Mizdow can't beat him. He offers his understudy a match against him. Should Mizdow win, he's free to go out on his own.

If he loses, he has to sign a long-term contract to stay The Miz's stunt doubleno matter how abusive the relationship gets.

This would be Ted DiBiase vs. Virgil all over again. With high stakes and high comedy, this promises to be a WrestleMania highlight.

Mizdow defeating The Miz with a Skull-Crushing Finale en route to his freedom would be a mighty powerful addition to the night.

Brock Lesnar Falls

Lesnar can't lose to John Cena at the Royal Rumble. There's a bigger moment to be had here.

The Beast Incarnate's win over The Undertaker at WrestleMania 30 and his domination of Cena at SummerSlam can't be wasted.

This is an opportunity to provide someone with their magnum opus. Whether it's Roman Reigns or someone else, it's far more powerful to wait to end Lesnar's time as champion.

Brock Lesnar with Paul Heyman

Lesnar has to defend the title more than he did between October and December, and WWE can make him look nearly as unbeatable as The Undertaker did at WrestleMania. Build up the monster and then let a hero cut him down at the legs.

Whomever WWE chooses for this role would leave the event overflowing with momentum. As confetti rained down on him, as he raised the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, there would surely be lumps in the audience's throats.

There is a story here that is too big to wrap up on another stage. WrestleMania's massiveness is too fitting for a moment of that size.
