Kyle Orton Ties Bills' Single-Game Completions Record
Buffalo Bills quarterback Kyle Orton tied a franchise single-game record with 38 completions in Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Denver Broncos, per ESPN Stats & Info (via Mike Rodak of ESPN).
Orton needed a whopping 57 pass attempts to get there and finished the game with 355 passing yards, good for a modest 6.2 yards per attempt. He threw one touchdown pass and two interceptions with a 74.8 passer rating for the day.
Four different Bills caught seven or more passes, led by running back Fred Jackson, who gained just 37 yards on 10 receptions. Tight end Scott Chandler caught eight balls for 81 yards, wide receiver Sammy Watkins had a team-high 127 receiving yards on seven receptions and fellow WR Chris Hogan managed 57 yards and a touchdown on seven catches of his own.

With the Bills down 24-3 at the end of the third quarter, Orton piled up 16 of his 38 completions over the final 15 minutes of the game. A one-yard touchdown run cut Denver's lead to 24-17 with 55 seconds remaining, but the Bills were unable to recover the ensuing onside kick.
Orton thus missed his chance to take sole possession of the franchise single-game completions record, which was originally set by Joe Ferguson in a 38-35 win over the Miami Dolphins in 1983.
Ferguson's record-setting performance was far more impressive than Orton's, as Ferguson managed 419 passing yards and five touchdowns with only one interception on 55 pass attempts.
