TNA Wrestling: Putting a Finger On My Problem With It

Matthew HesterAug 2, 2009

Hello, everyone. As always, I would like to thank all of you for spending a few minutes with me today.

Over the last year or so I have really tried to make an effort to get into TNA wrestling. I have watched it on several occasions and also ordered the PPV’s.  It seems though no matter how hard I tried, I just can’t seem to like it.

So I have decided to officially give up on watching TNA. It did make me wonder why I couldn’t enjoy it, though. It is hard to explain my reasons for not liking TNA, but I will give it my best effort to do so.

Let me start of by saying that I am in no way shape or form knocking TNA wrestling. I am simply going to explain why I couldn’t get into it. I hope this doesn’t come off as me slandering the product.

When pondering why I don’t really care for TNA, the first thing I asked myself was, is it the wrestling? The answer to this question was a solid no. How can I complain about any wrestling company with guys like Angle, Styles, MCMG’S and Samoa Joe?

I can say with all sincerity that everyone on the TNA roster bust their humps out there to give the fans a good match. It can also be argued that the talent on TNA is just as good, if not better then the WWE.

The next thing I questioned was the booking and writing. I have to say that it is pretty bad in my opinion. That would be a little unfair, though, considering the WWE can be just as bad, if not worse.

Looking at things so far you would think things would be even. I was finally able to put my finger on things, though.

Looking at TNA’s production value, I can't help but feel that it is subpar. Whether it’s the commentating, pyros, or even the quality of the camera work, I just do not care for it.

This isn’t the back breaker though, I find myself enjoying ROH, Combat Zone, New Japan; none of these shows have really good production value. What bothers me the most is the six-sided ring.

I know how petty this complaint sounds like. I am sorry I just can’t help how I feel. Even to this day the ring just feels so odd to me. I also find the advertisements in the ring to be very tacky.

I guess I am too much of a traditionalist, to find my self-being able to open up to the six-sided ring. If TNA ever decided to switch back to the 4-sided ring, I am sure I would be able to enjoy the product.

The best analogy that I can think of is your favorite pair of old shoes. You know you probably need new shoes. You go out and buy new shoes and no matter what they don’t feel right.

So you find yourself putting back on your old pair because they fit just right.

I know I can't be the only one that feels this way. I am willing to bet the mortgage that if they ever did switch back, they would have many more viewers.

Like most things in life we as people always lean towards what we are familiar with. In the case of pro wrestling, the same logic would apply. If that is not the case then how is it that TNA is second bananas.

Then again, I could be wrong on this theory, it wouldn’t be the first time, nor the last that I have been mistaken. It is my reasoning, though and it is the one I am going to stick with.

I thank all of you once again for spending some time with me.

As always, have a great day and God bless.
