Has Pandoras Box Been Opened Around The Various Nascar Social Sites?

Sal Sigala Jr.Aug 1, 2009

In case you haven’t noticed, fan loyalty has reached an all-time low while looking at all the hate that is thrown around towards certain drivers.

It makes you wonder why any fan would dislike a driver, first off for no apparent reason, and second without any real evidence to back their statement other then, “I just don’t like him.”

Maybe its time to go beyond the abnormal way of thinking and ask yourself, “What sensible and logical reason is it that keeps me from liking that certain driver?”

What is it that drives me to make such unrealistic accusations, which have no foundation other then it’s fueled by hate?

Now when you take the time to put all of your unhealthy feelings aside.

Try to look for what good can come out such a bad way of thinking, and at the same time try to be honest with yourself.

It shouldn't be that hard to have some kind of victory over all those bad feelings, because the worse that can happen is you just might like it.

Because in all honesty nothing good comes out of it, and  its beginning to sound like some broken record week in and week out hearing the complaining about how bad these certain drivers are.

As the weeks go by, we are beginning to see another version of, “Pandora’s box” being opened right before our very eyes.

Instead of being a good example to the rest of the sporting world, NASCAR fans have taken on a “Raider fan” type of mentality.

And being a Raider fan myself, we are stereotyped as the worse kind of fan out of any sport, next to soccer fan who chooses to burn down their own stadiums after a match.

Some of these so-called plastic, generation X type of fans have almost taken over the sport, with their lets pull the rest of the NASCAR fans down into the miry pit of hell that they already live in.

Blogging has hit an all-time low, as far as the quality of the content is concerned on some of the major NASCAR social sites.

There is a lot more garbage and hate that is being written today, then before NASCAR went to National T.V. in 2001.

It’s even gotten to the point that young kids are following in that same path, with their highly offensive and hate riddled blogs.

Do parents really allow this type of behavior around their homes, or are we as adult’s being bad examples on the various NASCAR boards?

Seriously is NASCAR really in that bad of shape that we have to treat it like some low-life form of entertainment?

Because lately it’s almost gotten to that point, and as far as the comments they only reflect what the actual blog is written about.

Since we already know that hate breeds hate, along with positive thoughts breed positive thoughts.

So what else can these blog writers who write this garbage expect, someone to go in there and say nice things when they are tearing down a driver that they only know because they watch him race on a Saturday or a Sunday?

Now given that like the old cliché goes, “We are entitled to our own opinions.”

But is that really a valid opinion, especially when most of them are not based off of fact, but are just thrown out there as pure hate?

It doesn’t take a very smart person to figure out when someone is trying to get under another persons skin by ripping on their driver.

The sad thing is that our drivers are the ones paying the price, because some irate fan just happens not to like him.

They may start off as an opinion, but it doesn’t take long before the writer is getting his fill of accomplishment knowing that he is just doing it just to irritate another member.

When you think long and hard about it, what have any of these drivers done so badly, that causes a few to turn them into another O.J. Simpson or a Michael Vick?

In the past few years, how many have gotten themselves in serious trouble with the law, or are chalking up felony after felony?

Instead, our drivers are showing the rest of the sports world how you can be famous, without having your mug shot plastered all over the weekly tabloids.

So what if Jr hasn’t won a race since last year or that Harvick hasn’t won one since 07.

Does it matter that Jamie will be out of the #26 next season, or that Dave Blaney continues to collect a free check every week?

As most of already knows, NASCAR is a very high strung and energetic sport.

Along with all that energy, comes the desire to put down in words exactly how we feel at that point and time.

But does that mean that we have to treat the drivers in a disrespectful way just because our adrenaline is pumping faster than what we can control it?

There are ways to channel those feelings so that instead of pushing the newer fans away from the sport, we can draw them in.

Take the time to think back to your first NASCAR experience, was it a positive or a negative one?
