Titans Release Phillips
The Tennessee Titans released veteran outside linebacker Shaun Phillips on Tuesday, according to the team's official Twitter account:
Phillips was a Pro Bowler in 2010 and spent his entire career with the San Diego Chargers before playing for the Denver Broncos last season, where he racked up 10 sacks. However, the 33-year-old had just two sacks in 11 games for the Titans this year.
Andy Benoit of Sports Illustrated still believes Phillips has something left to offer a more fortunate team as the playoffs approach:
To fill the void left by Phillips, Tennessee promoted Dontay Moch from the practice squad:
Moch was lauded for his incredible athletic ability and speed coming out of college. With so few games left and the Titans out of the postseason picture, this is a good opportunity for the team to evaluate Moch and see if he can become a viable contributor at the NFL level.
In defensive coordinator Ray Horton's exotic schemes that feature heavy blitzing, Moch could be deployed as a situational edge-rusher in a 3-4 alignment.
