Broncos Sign Barth, Cut McManus
Tuesday, Nov. 25
A lot has gone right for the Denver Broncos this season, but field-goal kicking isn't on the list. The Broncos have attempted to fix that issue by waiving kicker Brandon McManus and signing Connor Barth to replace him.
The Broncos announced the moves:
Mike Klis of The Denver Post and Adam Schefter of ESPN initially reported on the switch in Denver:
McManus has struggled mightily during his rookie season, going 9-of-13 on field goals. He has also missed three of his last six, including a botched 33-yard attempt in Week 12 against the Miami Dolphins. McManus was kept as the kicker when Matt Prater was released following a suspension.
Schefter and Jon Heath of Mile High Report also offered their takes on the move:
Prior to signing with the Broncos, Barth was a kicker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009 to 2012. He missed the entire 2013 season when tore his Achilles during a charity basketball game.
Barth spoke about coming back from the injury prior to the season, per Victoria Jacobsen of the Tampa Bay Times.
"Hopefully it's stronger than it was before," Barth said. "My swing's good and I'm hitting the ball well, and that's what's important."

It should be interesting to see how Barth performs for the Broncos after the struggles of McManus. Broncos fans will likely be restless if he gets off to a poor start.
The team is currently 8-3 and atop the AFC West ahead of its crucial showdown with the division rival Kansas City Chiefs (7-4) at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday Night Football, so Barth instantly finds himself on a competitive team in a high-pressure situation.
