WWE Survivor Series 2014 Results: Worst Booking Decisions from PPV

Erik BeastonNov 24, 2014

The Survivor Series pay-per-view was, for the most part, creatively successful.

After a year of dominating storylines, The Authority was banished from power, while Dolph Ziggler finally enjoyed the marquee match booking he so rightfully deserved and Sting made his monumental debut. Even the Divas Championship bout called back to previous events to supply the emphasis for that contest's finish.

For the first time in months, there is considerable buzz coming out of a show that very much succeeded in getting fans talking about the product and likely sold a number of subscriptions to WWE Network.

But that doesn't mean there weren't a few booking decisions that left fans screaming at their televisions in disbelief at the seeming stupidity demonstrated by the crack writing staff that makes up WWE Creative.

What were those decisions? Why did they have fans calling into question the continuity of the product?

Have a look-see.

Big Show Turns Heel...Again, Aligns With The Authority

The Big Show's KO Punch of John Cena not only sent the giant back to the dark side but aligned him with The Authority in one of the most nonsensical booking decisions of the last year.

At the 2013 Survivor Series, Big Show squared off with Randy Orton in a match that was the culmination of The World's Largest Athlete's emotional feud with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. After weeks of being humiliated, forced to cry on national television while inflicting pain and suffering to men he considered friends, Big Show had the chance to capture the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

For months, Big Show's life was made a living hell by The Authority. Why, almost one year to the day later, he would align himself with his tormentors is a mystery.

Was it job preservation? If so, he could have worked doubly hard to ensure that Team Cena won, thus eliminating the threat of retribution from Triple H and Stephanie. Instead, he made another illogical heel turn that will presumably be explained away on Monday's Raw, likely in a fashion that fails to actually address the continuity issues that it presents.

Adam Rose and The Bunny vs. Slater Gator

Why WWE opted to add Adam Rose and The Bunny vs. Slater Gator to the Survivor Series pay-per-view rather than a match involving Cesaro or the re-emergence of Fandango and Rosa Mendes makes little sense. Sure, the story has enjoyed a great deal of airtime over the last month, but it is nowhere near what anyone would consider pay-per-view-worthy.

It was another lame attempt at comedy by a company that has not quite come to the realization that guys in Bunny suits are not what the audience considers funny.

Adam Rose was dead in the water shortly after his debut for reasons that have not been explained, and portraying him as someone jealous of a costumed competitor will not help.

14 Minutes

The Divas elimination tag bout was given 14 minutes to play out in front of an audience that simply could not have cared less about the majority of the women involved, largely because WWE Creative could not be bothered to give them intriguing or interesting storylines. As a result, the women were met with silence.

Worse yet was the booking of the match, as the less experienced Summer Rae was exposed in one of the longest performances of her career. That Cameron was allowed to compete in the match as long as she was did nothing to help bolster the quality of the contest.

Paige was the last Diva from her team to be eliminated, but the case can be made that as the sole performer with breakout potential in the entire match, she should have been on the winning side of things.

With so much attention being paid to the Bella Twins in the Divas title hunt, it appears as though Paige may fall into the background. Given her talent, popularity and potential, that would be a humongous mistake by a company so seemingly invested in the future.

Giving the Divas 14 minutes to wrestle a match was not necessarily a problem. After all, this writer has fought the good fight for women's wrestling repeatedly, begging management to give the Divas a chance to prove their worth between the ropes.

But to put Cameron, Summer Rae and even Alicia Fox and Naomi in a position where they would have their weaknesses exposed was awful, detrimental booking.
