WWE Survivor Series 2014 Matches: Updated Predictions for Each Match at Event

Sharon GlencrossNov 21, 2014

Heading into WWE’s Survivor Series event, there are several interesting—and one or two not-so-interesting—matches on the card. And, as we gear up for WrestleMania season, much of the company’s long-running angles and storylines hinge on some of the results this Sunday.

While it may not do amazing business or seem like must-see television, the card is actually a far bigger deal than it sounds on paper. It will determine much of what is to come in the future.

So, in order of both the short- and long-term impact the results will have, let’s predict the outcome of the bouts on card.

5. Divas Traditional Elimination Tag Match

1 of 5

Natalya, Naomi, Alicia Fox and Emma will take on Summer Rae, Cameron, Paige and Layla in a traditional Survivor Series elimination match.

Let’s be honest: This is a dull-sounding match that seemingly only exists to give all those involved something to do and to fill out some time on the card. There's no doubt that the women—particularly veterans like Layla, Natalya and Fox—will try hard, but it’s hard to see them managing to make it anything special.

It’s hard to see the crowd being that into it either. It’ll probably be slotted right before the main event, further dooming it.

Who wins probably doesn’t matter much either, but I’d give the advantage to the heel side. It’s easy to see Paige finding a way to manipulate and cheat her way to victory.

4. Tag Team Title Match

2 of 5

While it has been somewhat under-promoted, this Fatal 4-Way bout for the WWE Tag Team Championships could potentially steal the show if it’s given enough time. Expect some thrilling in-ring action and high-flying antics as the four teams battle for the gold.

At this point, The Miz and Damien Mizdow might be the most likely to walk out of the Scottrade Center with the titles. They’re a new team—unlike The Usos, Los Matadores and Goldust and Stardust, who have been around seemingly forever—and they appear to have momentum on their side.

The company’s tag division is at genuine risk of going stale, and it desperately needs some new blood to help rejuvenate it.

3. Divas Championship Match

3 of 5

Nikki Bella appears to be a safe bet to walk out of St. Louis with the Divas championship. Not only are there the reports—from F4WOnline.com (h/t WrestleZone)—that AJ Lee could possibly be on her way out, but it’s also simply the natural progression for the Total Divas star’s character. She’s the division’s new top heel, and she needs to win the title to solidify her status.

Bella's ascension in the ranks, as well as the mystery surrounding Lee's future, makes this one of the most compelling and important bouts on the card.

Presumably, Bella will win with some reluctant help from her downtrodden sister, Brie Bella, during the match. Poor Brie Bella will be ordered to come to her sibling’s aid, either by causing a distraction or giving her a weapon, and she will have no choice but to comply.

2. Bray Wyatt vs. Dean Ambrose

4 of 5

Dean Ambrose and Bray Wyatt will battle at Survivor Series in the first major showdown of their decent, but rather unremarkable, feud. Honestly, it feels like both men are probably wasting their time here and should be mixing it up in the main event scene instead.

Perhaps WWE feels the same and will give Ambrose vs. Wyatt a firm ending, with the former Shield member going over. It's possible Wyatt will try to employ his “supernatural” antics, only for Ambrose to power though and gain the win regardless.

Dragging out this feud until TLC or the Royal Rumble certainly feels like a bad idea. If it hasn’t caught on by now, it probably never will.

1. Team Authority vs. Team Cena

5 of 5

John Cena will be heading into the Survivor Series main event looking to dismantle The Authority once and for all, but it’s difficult to see the star actually accomplishing his goal. It’s far too early to write out Triple H and Stephanie McMahon from the storyline—and especially not in such a rushed manner.

This program should be drawn out until WrestleMania and feature Vince McMahon much more heavily. There’s far too much potential in a power struggle angle between the McMahons to simply end the angle this Sunday and quickly move on.

One probable option is that a member of Cena’s team will turn on him and hand the victory over to the heels. Ryback is clearly too erratic and crazy to be trusted, but it might be too predictable for him to go heel.

Dolph Ziggler would be a more surprising, and arguably more satisfying and logical, heel turn. It would certainly help get Ziggler's career back on the right track, and The Authority did make him a very tempting offer on Raw a few weeks ago. But we'll have to wait and see.
