Manny Pacquiao Net Worth, Projected Purse Earnings and Fight Predictions
Manny Pacquiao is set for another sizable payday as the Filipino sensation faces off with Chris Algieri on Saturday in his second fight of 2014. He previously scored a victory by unanimous decision in a rematch with Timothy Bradley back in April.
Brian Warner of Celebrity Net Worth reports Pacquiao is currently worth $100 million after raking in about $20 million for the Bradley bout. Interestingly, it's also noted he could have earned as much as $80 million if a superfight with Floyd Mayweather was agreed to when previously rumored:
"On March 13, 2010, Pacquiao was supposed to fight Floyd Mayweather in what could have been the most profitable boxing match up in history. Experts predicted the bout would break the pay per view record of 3 million purchases resulting in $200 million in gross revenues. Of that $200 million, Manny could earn as much as $80 million.
"
Of course, the two sides could never reach an agreement. Even though there's still plenty of discussion about the boxing superstars eventually meeting in the ring, it seems unlikely at this point. A bridge would need to be built between the camps after some verbal duels over the years.
For now, Pac-Man is focused on the clash with Algieri. The American sports a 20-0 career record but has never faced an opponent on anywhere near the same level as the eight-division world champion. So there's a bit of mystery heading into the bout.
One thing that isn't a mystery is whether Pacquiao is in for another massive infusion of cash. He is. Unus Alladin of the South China Morning Post passed along comments from Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, who provided the details.
"He could easily top $30 million, that's what we are hoping," Arum said. "This will be one of his bigger purses, and it's free of U.S. taxes because he's not fighting in the United States. His net income will be by far his biggest [he will earn]."
The report notes Pacquiao is guaranteed a minimum of $24 million.
As for the fight itself, he should be in good shape, as well. Aries Joseph Hegina of Inquirer.net provided the tale of the tape:
Algieri has shown some promise, including in his most recent victory, which came over Ruslan Provodnikov back in June. But this is a big ask for him given the large gap in the track records of Pac-Man and his prior opponents.
Pacquiao should be able to dictate the pace and style of the fight. That will likely allow him to take firm control by the middle rounds, and then he'll likely increase his aggressiveness. It represents a chance for him to score his first knockout since Miguel Cotto in 2009.
Whether it comes by knockout or decision, expect Pacquiao to pick up his third straight win to leave that brief losing skid firmly in the rear-view mirror.
