Pacquiao vs. Algieri: Updated Odds, Undercard and Main Event Predictions

As boxing fans have come to realize over the years, though, betting odds don't always tell the whole story. Pacquiao's edge in terms of big-fight success and experience makes him an overwhelming favorite, but it may not be wise to sleep on the undefeated 30-year-old from Huntington, New York.
With the melee in Macau, China, quickly approaching, here is everything you need to know about Pacquiao vs. Algieri from betting odds to the undercard and even some predictions regarding the huge main event.

Main Event Predictions
Fight Will Go to the Scorecards
There has been a great deal of talk from both camps leading up to the fight about winning via knockout, but the numbers suggest that this bout is very likely to go the distance.
Pacquiao hasn't won via knockout since 2009, while Algieri has just eight knockouts to his credit in 20 career fights. Both boxers are proficient when it comes to lasting 12 rounds and letting the judges settle it, though.
With that said, trainer Freddie Roach is hoping that Pac-Man will be able to put his underdog opponent away quite quickly, according to Gerry Ramos of Spin.ph.
"I hope he (Pacquiao) gets him (Algieri) in one (round)," Roach said. "Believe me, he wants an emphatic victory. He needs an emphatic victory. That is why he has gone the extra mile in this camp to achieve that."
At the same time, Pacquiao has made it clear that he can't afford to get cocky or overconfident at any point during the bout, per Ramos.
"I don't want to underestimate my opponent," Pacquiao said. "I don't want to get careless, but the fire and aggressiveness will be there."
Pacquiao has fought with some semblance of caution in most of his recent fights rather than going all out for stoppages like he did earlier in his career. Because of that recent change in philosophy, it's difficult to imagine this encounter ending before the scheduled 12 rounds.
Algieri Will Acquit Himself Well
Despite his perfect 20-0 record, Algieri isn't being given much of a chance by most observers. He has shown a great deal of perseverance over the course of his career, though, and seems to specialize in proving his doubters wrong.
Because of that, Algieri knows that he has earned the massive opportunity he will be faced with on Saturday, according to ESPN.com's Dan Rafael:
Even legendary boxer "Sugar" Ray Leonard has endorsed Algieri's rise to the top of the sport:
One thing that Algieri has going for him is a significant size advantage. He is nearly four inches taller than Pacquiao at 5'10", which means he has a long enough reach to work the jab and prevent Pac-Man from getting inside.
Because of that fact alone, Algieri should be able to remain competitive over the long haul. Even if he doesn't control the fight, he should at least manage to prevent Pacquiao from doing major damage at close quarters.
Anything can happen when a fight goes to the scorecards, and Algieri is likely to bank on things breaking his way if this bout goes all the way.
Pacquiao Will Win By Unanimous Decision

While Pacquiao is likely still somewhat wary about judging after a controversial split-decision loss to Timothy Bradley in 2012, his past two decision wins over Brandon Rios and Bradley have been quite convincing.
Because of that, he likely has a similar blueprint when it comes to taking down Algieri. Pac-Man schooled the less-experienced Rios a couple fights ago, and he will almost certainly attempt to use savviness to his advantage against Algieri as well.
Five of Pacquiao's past six wins have come by unanimous decision, with the other being a majority decision. Winning in that fashion has become the norm for Pac-Man as of late, and he will continue that trend by beating a game Algieri in the eyes of the judges.
