Manny Pacquiao vs. Chris Algieri Latest Prop Bets and Fight Card Odds

R. Cory SmithNov 20, 2014

Late in the boxing season, Manny Pacquiao vs. Chris Algieri sets up as one of the premier fights. The two boxers are set to step into the ring this Saturday, with bettors hoping to line their pockets during the bout.

Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) comes into the match as the clear favorite after earning a decisive win over Timothy Bradley. The current WBO welterweight champion has bounced back from a disappointing 2012 season and is primed for another big match.

His opponent, on the other hand, is still looking to make a name for himself. Algieri (20-0-0, 8 KOs) has far less experience on the big stage but is coming off a huge win of his own. The New York native defeated Ruslan Provodnikov by split decision and is hoping to surprise Pac-Man.

Betting Breakdown

Even with an unblemished record, Algieri simply isn't getting much respect heading into Saturday's bout. But then again, he hasn't exactly earned it with just one win over a notable opponent earlier this year.

In that match, Algieri came away with a right eye that was nearly swollen shut and was knocked down twice in the first round. He was able to rally and win the match, but it won't be the same against Pac-Man.

The Filipino boxer is much more aggressive than Provodnikov and presents a challenge with his speed. Bradley, who knows all about Pacquiao, spoke about what Algieri will experience in China, per Greg Logan of NewsDay: "Oh, man. He's going to learn Nov. 22 what fast is all about," Bradley said. "Manny Pacquiao? Lightning-fast, reflexes, angles. He's going to see what that's like. He definitely is. Good luck to him, though, man."

As for the lines, let's just say that betting on the fight to end in anything but a decision would be a poor choice. Pacquiao hasn't won by knockout since 2009, and Algieri doesn't present the same decimating power that Juan Manuel Marquez did during Pacquiao's last KO loss.

If Algieri proved anything in his last fight with Provodnikov, it's that he's resilient in the ring. He also has punching accuracy that can disrupt an onslaught by any fighter with a well-placed attack.

Algieri discussed how he feels his timing and size will benefit him against Pac-Man, via Mark Whicker of USA Today:

"

Seeing Manny up close was good. He's a real person in my mind now. ...

That way I can hit him before he hits me. He has speed, but timing beats speed. People question my punching ability (he has only eight KOs) but Provodnikov didn't walk through my punches, and he was bulletproof. Other people's opinions are really none of my business.

"

For those banking on Algieri pulling off the win to come away with some serious bank, there might be one reason Pacquiao will come up short—he's already looking ahead.

Recently, Pac-Man has already discussed his interest in fighting Amir Khan in London. He's also released a commercial about a potential fight with Floyd Mayweather, per Nick Schwartz of USA Today's For the Win.

Needless to say, Pacquiao might not necessarily be fully focused on fighting Algieri. Dan Rafael of ESPN passed along his thoughts on the recent rumblings about Pac-Man and Money:

Maybe that's simply grasping at straws to help bettors feel more confidence in placing money on Algieri. Regardless of how he's looked in the recent past, Pacquiao is still a premier boxer who has the speed to keep up with anyone in the ring.

Algieri has proved he's a good fighter, but is he in the same class as Pacquiao? Boxing fans will find out on Saturday night when he taps gloves with one of the most prolific boxers in the world.
