Rampage Jackson Hints at Interest in Return to UFC
Quinton "Rampage" Jackson is ready to make a deal with the devil. The one he knows, anyway. It's been almost two years since Jackson left the UFC for Bellator, and now it seems as though he's interested in returning to the Octagon.
His run in Bellator MMA has given the former UFC champion three straight victories, but after the departure of former CEO Bjorn Rebney from the organization earlier this year, we haven't seen or heard much from Rampage.
Jackson sent out a tweet on Monday expressing his thoughts now that he has fought for both promotions:
When Jackson first signed with Bellator last year, he instantly became friendly with Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney and said that the organization revived his love for MMA. The details of the deal Jackson struck with Viacom and Bellator included reality television shows, work in films and even an ill-fated attempt at professional wrestling on TNA Impact.
With his surgically fixed and PRP-treated knees, Rampage posted back-to-back first-round finishes in his first two trips to the Bellator cage and won a narrow decision over "King" Mo Lawal in his most recent fight at Bellator 120.
Since then, Jackson has gone sour on his current promoter, telling The Fight Nerd that Bellator didn't actually pay to fix his knees like Rebney said so often publicly. He summed up his most recent frustrations with the sport of MMA by saying the following in an Instagram post:
"The first time Chuck and I fought was in Japan. PRIDE reps asked me to give him a good beating even though I had two fights that night. I lost my second fight that night cause I did what they asked, and they stood up the fight with Wanderlei too soon, in my opinion. MMA hasn't had my back the way I had its back. Time for me to think about retirement. Or fighting for myself.
"
Jackson has lashed out publicly at the UFC numerous times since his departure. He told Fight Hub (via MMA Fighting's David St. Martin) that he believes the UFC lied about his past earnings, and he had some not nice things to say about the UFC's Hall of Fame to Fight Hub, via MMA Mania's Jesse Holland (NSFW language).
At this stage of the game it's possible the UFC feels they'd ultimately be better off outside of the Rampage Jackson business.
The UFC has repaired relationships with outspoken fighter's in the past, but Rampage admitted to The MMA Hour (h/t MMA Fighting's Dave Meltzer) that he was "a thorn in [the] UFC's side," and he may have now burned bridges with both of MMA's biggest promotions.
