The Browns then confirmed the roster move:

Cleveland has used the combination of Terrance West and Isaiah Crowell to lead the rushing attack as of late. Tate finished with two carries for minus-nine yards in a loss to the Houston Texans. He averaged just 3.1 yards per carry in eight games.

General manager Ray Farmer released comments through the team's official site.

"With all the transactions we make while constructing our roster, it will always be our intent to do what is best for our football team," Farmer said. "This move is no different, and we wish Ben the best going forward."

Joel Corry of the National Football Post provided the financial details:

Jason Cole of Bleacher Report also weighed in on Tate's chances of clearing waivers given his cost:

As for Tate's next destination, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reported on interest in him around the league:

Aditi Kinkhabwala of NFL.com reveals one team who reportedly inquired about Tate:

Tate enjoyed success in a more limited role with the Texans over the previous three seasons. He averaged 4.7 yards per tote during that span. The lack of production following the move, injury concerns and the emergence of other options ended his stay with Cleveland prematurely.

He'll likely catch on elsewhere before long, but the Browns feel comfortable moving forward with their other backs.
