Bishop Sankey, Shonn Greene, Dexter McCluster's Post-Week 11 Fantasy Reaction

Matt FitzgeraldNov 17, 2014

Tennessee Titans rookie running back Bishop Sankey hasn't had a transcendent maiden NFL season, but he at least rewarded fantasy owners with a touchdown in Week 11 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Veteran Shonn Greene still takes a considerable amount of touches, and versatile playmaker Dexter McCluster can also line up in the backfield. However, Sankey, a second-round draft choice, got off to a fast fantasy start, though he cooled off from then on in what amounted to a 27-24 loss.

ESPN's Scott Brown lamented the sloppy display by Pittsburgh's defense when Sankey scampered to the end zone from nine yards out in the first quarter:

But Sankey is a powerful back who can get downhill in a hurry. Yahoo Sports fantasy expert Brad Evans gave Sankey a bit more credit:

Lauded as a fantasy sleeper before the season began, Sankey hasn't lived up to the hype as of yet. He looked strong in Week 11, but his starting counterpart, Le'Veon Bell, compiled over 200 yards rushing, allowing Pittsburgh to dominate time of possession and limiting Sankey's impact.

Spotty quarterback play has also been to blame for Sankey's lackluster 2014. With first-year, sixth-round pick Zach Mettenberger under center, it's hard for even fervent optimists to endorse Sankey as anything better than an RB2 at this point.

In keeper leagues, Sankey is showing he has the tools to merit a long-term fantasy investment. Greene is approaching the daunting plateau of 30 years old (August 2015), which is when modern ball-carriers tend to decline.

As for McCluster, he's a little bit too diminutive to be a threat between the tackles as a runner and is better suited to be a pass-catcher. His role in both dimensions of the offense isn't enough to warrant more than flex consideration in the deepest fantasy leagues.
