Hugh Freeze Contract: Latest News and Rumors on Negotiations with Ole Miss
Ole Miss might be on the outside looking in at the first ever College Football Playoff, but head coach Hugh Freeze will reportedly earn a new contract for his efforts.
No deal is in place yet but it appears likely one will be set in the near future. Ole Miss athletics director Ross Bjork discussed the latest on Freeze, per Ben Garrett of Ole Miss Spirit:
Bjork's comments were passed along in Garrett's report:
"Obviously, we’ve redone his contract after the last two seasons. We’ve used the same approach. ... We’ve been proactive throughout the season. Coach knows how we feel about him. We love that he loves being here and his family’s comfortable. We’ll take the next couple of weeks to iron out the details and by all accounts, we’ll have a new deal in place for him when the season’s over.
"
The Rebels are 8-2 this season (4-2 SEC) behind Bo Wallace and the No. 1 scoring defense in the country, which allows just 11.9 points per game. Along with results, Freeze has also brought in great talent, including the No. 15 recruiting class in 2014, per 247Sports' composite system.
Alex Byington of the Opelika-Auburn News notes a recent contract for Gus Malzahn:
The extension talks also come just after rumors that Freeze might be taking over the Florida program in the future, per Hugh Kellenberger of The Clarion-Ledger. Freeze addressed those rumors, via Kellenberger:
Freeze took over a program that was 2-10 in 2011 and has completely turned it around in a short amount of time. With the current talent on the field, Freeze remaining at Ole Miss should strike fear in the rest of the SEC.
If Freeze does sign a new contract, it would be just the latest in a long line of lucrative deals for SEC coaches. After proving himself on the biggest stage, Freeze has a chance to come away with a huge contract.
