WWE Must Continue The Authority Storyline Until WrestleMania 31

Sharon GlencrossNov 13, 2014

One thing is for sure: Survivor Series should not mark the end of The Authority storyline.

Admittedly, the storyline—which has seen Triple H and his wife tyrannically rule over the WWE as heel owners—probably has run its natural course. It was fun for a while, but there's only so much mileage you can get out of Stephanie McMahon snootily talking down to wrestlers and fans alike.

But this storyline has dominated WWE programming for much of the past year. If the angle is going out, it should be with a bang, not a whimper.

And John Cena's team defeating Team Authority at the pay-per-view and sending them all packing would definitely be the latter, not the former.

Indeed, this latest booking move is far too rash. The “Triple H and Stephanie are gone if their team loses” stipulation comes off like something the writers quickly threw together to liven up an otherwise anemic and unappealing Survivor Series main event.

Ideally, this storyline should be drawn out until WrestleMania 31 in March. Enough time should be given to developing the power struggle angle that will pit Vince McMahon against is daughter and son-in-law.

This actually could be great television, provided it's booked and promoted correctly, of course. Certainly, all three possess the mic skills to make it something special, and it also provides a golden opportunity to involve new stars—Dean Ambrose or Rusev, perhaps—and give them the rub they deserve.

Perhaps the best idea at Survivor Series would be for The Authority to manage to eke out the victory, leading Triple H and Stephanie to realize that it is time for them to get rid of the old man once and for all in case he attempts to oust them from power again.

Maybe they could attempt to get Vince declared legally insane and therefore render him unfit to run a huge corporation. Considering his preposterous antics on WWE television over the years, this would actually be a very believable storyline. Or the owner could be the victim of a mysterious backstage attack that takes him out of action for months—with everyone secretly knowing his power-hungry family is to blame.

Vince would then return to the company at a later date and declare war on his daughter and her husband.

McMahon could possibly pick Ambrose—the two have interacted on television before—to represent him in a WrestleMania 31 showdown against Triple H with control of the company on the line. Ambrose being the man who drove off The Authority and saved the company would almost certainly rocket him to main event stardom.

It’s an intriguing option. Or maybe WWE writers can come up with another idea heading into WrestleMania. But, really, no matter what they do, they have to know Survivor Series should not be the end to this program. It would be too much of a waste.
