Winston's Accuser's Lawyer Responds to Quarterback's Statement

The lawyer for Jameis Winston's accuser responded to the quarterback's statements, according to Sean Rossman of the Tallahassee Democrat:

"

"It apparently took about one hour for Mr. Winston and his lawyer to violate Justice Harding's confidentiality instructions by emailing out one of the exhibits to the media," Clune wrote. "Jameis Winston's crude new recollection of events is as disgusting as it is implausible. He just keeps digging himself deeper. For now we will trust in the strength of our client's repeated and consistent interviews. The time for Winston, Casher, and Darby to fully explain this new story will come.

Winston's Lawyer Comments on Wednesday's Hearing, Winston Issues Statement

ESPN.com provided a statement that Winston read during the hearing:

"

I did not rape or sexually assault [the accuser]. I did not create a hostile, intimidating or offensive environment in the short period of time that we were together. [The accuser] had the capacity to consent to having sex with me and she repeatedly did so by her conduct and her verbal expressions. I never used physical violence, threats, or other coercive means towards [the accuser]. Finally, I never endangered [the accuser's] health, safety, or well-being.

"

Winston's hearing is complete, according to ESPN's Mark Schlabach, who also provided a comment from Winston's lawyer, David Cornwell:

Attorneys For Winston, His Accuser Issue Statements

Rachel Axon of USA Today passed along a statement from Jameis Winston's accusers regarding his student conduct hearing:

"

This is the day that Mr. Winston has been desperately trying to avoid for two years. This courageous young woman finally gets the chance to stand up for herself and against Mr. Winston and big time college sports which has long run over the rights and protection of women on campus.

Neither Jameis Winston nor his lawyer can stop what is coming.

"

Axon later shared a statement from Winston's attorney, David Cornwell, as well:

"

Cornwell issued a statement before the hearing that reiterated their previous stance that Winston did not sexually assault the woman.

'We intend to end this process today,' he said. 'Unfortunately, in these type of cases, the only way to confront the lie is with the truth. Jameis will tell the truth today, and we are confident that Justice Harding, when he hears her multiple lies and Jameis' truth, will find as every other entity has to this point, that she is lying.'

"

Axon detailed the scene after the hearing and provided a comment from Cornwell:

Winston's Roommates Refuse to Answer Questions at Hearing

ESPN's Mark Schlabach reports on how fellow Florida State football players Chris Casher and Ronald Darby were involved in today's hearing:

"

Casher and Darby, who were Winston's roommates at an off-campus apartment and were there on the night of the alleged incident, refused to answer Harding's questions on the advice of their attorneys. Citing a Florida State student conduct rule which allows students to refuse to testify, Casher and Darby told the judge they intended to "stick by their prior position" because of a threatened lawsuit.

In November 2013, Casher and Darby presented signed affidavits to the state attorney's office, in which they said they saw Winston having consensual sex with the woman. Casher later told investigators that he went into Winston's bedroom to videotape their sexual encounter, but destroyed the cell phone before he could give it to police.

Casher and Darby appeared before FSU's student judiciary this past spring for their actions on the night of the alleged incident. Casher was charged with invading the woman's privacy and was placed on one year's probation by the school. Darby was cleared of any wrongdoing.

Winston's Hearing Postponed

The saga of Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston took another turn Wednesday, as his previously scheduled student code-of-conduct hearing has been postponed.

The news was initially reported by Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times:

Rachel Axon of USA Today breaks down how Winston will likely be able to avoid the hearing until after Florida State's football season concludes:

The hearing relates to allegations that Winston sexually assaulted an FSU student in 2012. Although the star signal-caller was not charged with a crime, he was set to face university officials the week of Nov. 17.

According to ESPN.com's Mark Schlabach, the postponement was requested by the Heisman Trophy winner's attorney:

The reason given was so that Winston and his legal team would have more time to prepare, per Baker:

Discipline against Winston before the end of the season is still possible if he is found to be in violation of the code of conduct.
