5 Bold Predictions for the Chicago Bears' Week 10 Matchup

Ross ReadNov 7, 2014

It's Green Bay Packers week! All right, the Chicago Bears' poor record might not have you as excited about the game, but maybe some bold predictions can put you in the mood.

The meeting in Green Bay has the potential to be either a season-saving or season-ending match for the Bears. In order to pull this game out, the Bears need some guys to step up.

Under the spotlight are the head coach, starting quarterback, star receiver and premier pass-rusher. They are all included in this week's bold predictions, along with a bold statement on how the actual game will go.

Click ahead to find out what they are, and let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Brandon Marshall Will Break out in a Major Way

1 of 5

The last time Brandon Marshall reached the end zone, it was Week 4 against the Packers. Since then, Marshall has had a rough go of it over the past month.

Marshall has only one 100-yard receiving game this season. The Bears need him to break out in a major way by being the offensive force everyone knows he can be.

It's time for Marshall to show he's refocused and rejuvenated after the bye. There's a lot of pride within him, and he will show it on Sunday. Look for Marshall to gain over 100 yards and have two touchdowns.

Jared Allen Will Step Up to the Challenge

2 of 5

The Bears defense is in shambles. It is coming off a performance against the New England Patriots where it gave up 51 points. It doesn't get any better with Aaron Rodgers on deck and Lamarr Houston on injured reserve.

It's time for Jared Allen to step up and become the leader of this defense. He has the pedigree and personality to bring back some pride to this much maligned unit.

Allen will be opposite Willie Young, who has been the team's best pass-rusher. The two can form a great duo that can frustrate Aaron Rodgers in the pocket.

Going into this game, Allen has 1.5 sacks on the season. He needs to come away from this game with at least twice that number. He will do so and show everyone there's still some pride left in the tank.

Jay Cutler Will Throw Plenty of Touchdowns and Interceptions

3 of 5

It's time for everybody to embrace who Jay Cutler is. He's a high-volume quarterback who's going to throw touchdowns and wow you with his arm strength, and he's going to turn the football over because of his stubborn ways.

The sooner the Bears realize that, the sooner he can get into more of a comfort zone. Even when the Bears are trying to be careful with the play calls, Cutler still turns the ball over. Why continue to restrict him?

Let Cutler loose. Open up the playbook, let him move around and air the football out. He works best when he doesn't have to play within the confines of an offense that limits his ability.

Marc Trestman knows he's running out of time in this season. All bets are off right now, and the Bears are in full desperation mode. Maybe that's a good thing as we start to see Cutler go down the field more. Look for him to have anywhere from three to four touchdowns and at least two picks.

Marc Trestman Will Call His Best Offensive Game of the Year

4 of 5

Right now, it's debatable whether Marc Trestman's seat is hot. Whether he has job security going into next season, it's clear he needs to start performing better or his tenure in Chicago won't last for too long.

Trestman is an offensive coach, and that's where his improvements should begin. Aside from the game in Atlanta, this offense has been underperforming all year despite having big-time talent at all the skill positions.

Green Bay's defense is nothing to be scared of. If the first matchup is any indication of how this game will go, the Bears are going to need to score a lot of points to keep up with the Packers. This is something they certainly can do.

It starts with Trestman's play-calling. He must show a balanced attack but still take his shots down the field. Matt Forte must continue to be a major focal point in the offense, but there should still be plenty of plays dialed up for Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery down the field.

Trestman has had two weeks to put this game plan in place. This will be the best plan he's had all year by far. Look for the Bears to put up at least 30 points.

The Bears Are Going to Win...in Green Bay

5 of 5

It took a sack from Shea McClellin last year to knock Aaron Rodgers out and allow the Bears to steal one on the road in Lambeau Field. Don't expect the same circumstances, but you can allow yourself to believe the Bears can win this.

It's still only Week 10, but this game is for the Bears' season. If they lose this, they fall to six losses and seemingly are a shoo-in to miss the playoffs. If there's any kind of pride and desire left in this team, it will show it Sunday night against its hated rivals.

The Bears need to know they can score with this team. The defense needs to know while Rodgers is good, he's not superhuman and can be had. It's going to come down to who can make the most big plays, and the Bears will make just enough this week.

Look for the Bears to save their season for at least another week with a 34-31 win over Green Bay.
