WWE Survivor Series 2014: Stars Under the Most Pressure at PPV

Erik BeastonNov 5, 2014

A major World Wrestling Entertainment pay-per-view brings with it a certain amount of pressure for any and all Superstars lucky enough to make the card.

When said pay-per-view has been one of the cornerstones of the company's schedule for 27 years, home to some of the most memorable and controversial moments in the history of the company, that pressure to deliver a great performance intensifies tenfold.

With a huge main event pitting Team Cena against The Authority, in which Triple H and Stephanie McMahon's reign of terror over WWE is at stake, there will be numerous stars under the proverbial gun to perform at the highest level possible.

Who are those stars and why are they feeling the weight of the world on their shoulders?

Let's take a look.

Seth Rollins

To this point, Rollins has done everything necessary to ascend the ladder in WWE and become the company's most hated heel.

At Survivor Series, he enters the night as the face of Team Authority, the man charged with ensuring that Triple H and Stephanie remain the most powerful couple in professional wrestling.

Anyone in that role would feel pressure, be it a young breakout heel or an established main eventer. But Rollins still feels very much in the infancy of his main event run, and a poor performance could almost assuredly cause management and WWE Creative to take a step back and reconsider positioning him as the foil for so many of its top babyfaces.

Luckily, the Architect has a history of performing up to the big matches and moments, which is something that should ease his burden.

Dolph Ziggler

From the moment Ziggler dropped the World Heavyweight Championship to Alberto Del Rio in the summer of 2013, fans watched as the Showoff endured some truly awful booking courtesy of WWE Creative.

He suffered a long losing streak, then won meaningless matches while dropping matches to every main event star he shared the ring with.

Despite fans still supporting him, management used him as a glorified enhancement talent for its more relevant stars.

Then he won the intercontinental title from The Miz, and since then, has seen a career revival of sorts. He wins more than he loses and suddenly finds himself thrust in the main event of one of the biggest shows of the year.

While it is unlikely anyone is going to hand him a shot at the top of the card coming out of the show, delivering one of his trademark show-stealing performances may force the company to take a step back, look at its somewhat depleted main event roster and think about giving Ziggler a much-deserved second shot at the top of the card.

Bray Wyatt

After suffering a debilitating loss to John Cena at Payback, a loss that threatened to kill all of the build that had gone into the Reaper of Souls character, Bray Wyatt returned at Hell in a Cell and immediately set his sights on Dean Ambrose.

This Wyatt is different, darker and more sinister than he was before.

With that said, the enhancement and changes to the character mean nothing if he fails to build upon it with a superb performance come Survivor Series.

At the annual November event, he squares off with Ambrose in a match that will serve as the co-main event.

The pressure is on Wyatt. This a second chance that most performers never receive. He must make the most of it by turning in more consistent in-ring performances, and that begins with his match with Ambrose.
