Monday Night Football Week 9: TV Schedule, Live Stream for Colts vs. Giants

Andrew GouldNov 3, 2014

Heading into their Monday Night Football clash with the New York Giants, the Indianapolis Colts have redemption on their minds.

The Colts were rolling on all cylinders before Week 8, carrying a five-game winning streak into Pittsburgh before getting shell-shocked during a 51-34 loss against the Steelers. After getting torched by Ben Roethlisberger in an embarrassing defeat, the AFC South leaders are hungry to prove they're still a legit title contender.

In their way stand the New York Giants, whose playoff hopes received a swift blow after suffering back-to-back losses against the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys. Fresh off a bye week, Eli Manning will need a big night to even New York's record to 4-4, and he will have to do it against the man who replaced his brother in Indianapolis.

New York's defense will have its hands full with Andrew Luck's red-hot passing, especially with two of his weapons returning to the Meadowlands for the first time since leaving Big Blue.

The Giants could use Ahmad Bradshaw right about now.

While Bradshaw frequently struggled to stay on the field, his hard-nosed running style endeared himself to the Big Apple. Through six years with the G-Men, the 5'10" bulldozer averaged 4.6 yards per carry, helping the Giants win two Super Bowls.

Yet given his injury history and the team investing a first-round pick on the now-retired David Wilson, New York cut ties with Bradshaw after he ran for 1,015 yards in 2012.

During a conference call earlier in the week, he admitted to harboring some hard feelings for the decision at the time. But he has since moved on from the past, according to the New York Daily News' Ebenezer Samuel.

“It didn’t take long to get over it,” Bradshaw said. “It just hurt me because I felt that was my family, that I was a big part of that team, and I still felt like I had a lot of football left.”

To be fair, the Giants' worries were well-founded, as he played just three games in 2013 for the Colts. This year, however, a healthy Bradshaw has gained 635 total yards with eight touchdowns, averaging 4.9 yards per carry. He has made his biggest mark as a pass-catcher, and the Giants allow approximately 11.0 yards per catch to opposing backs, per ESPN.com.

Meanwhile, new Giants signing Rashad Jennings will miss his third straight game with a knee injury. In his place, Andre Williams has shown little burst with a mediocre 3.1 yards per carry. Peyton Hillis has actually flashed more effectiveness with 4.3 yards per carry in limited work.

For the Giants to pull off the upset, they'll need to duplicate the Steelers' blueprint of throwing the ball all over the place. Odell Beckham Jr., who scored touchdowns through his first three games, needs to continue his strong NFL inauguration.

Luck must be chomping at the bit to produce his seventh straight 300-yard passing game. Luck will have the chance to continue his streak when he faces the NFL's No. 25 passing defense entering Week 9. That string of heavy yardage has already started Luck's process of gradually replacing Peyton Manning in the team's record book, per SportsCenter's Twitter page.

Even if Reggie Wayne can't suit up, Luck found a new toy in Donte Moncrief, who accumulated 113 receiving yards and a touchdown during the shootout loss to Pittsburgh. As a target, he abruptly sprung ahead of Hakeem Nicks, another former Giant suiting up against his old squad.

"Any guy in this business who played on a team that let you go, you always look forward to playing them," Nicks said in an Associated Press report, via the Daily Record.

Don't forget about the wideout who was once Eli Manning's top target. He and Luck have struggled to mesh, connecting on 18-of-39 tries, but his huge hands and leaping ability make him one of many red-zone targets at Luck's disposal.

The Colts should have no trouble lighting up the scoreboard in New Jersey, so it's a matter of not allowing 51 points again. Seems like an attainable goal.
