6 CFB Recruits Who Dominated in October

Tyler DonohueOct 31, 2014

October annually presents a pivotal stretch of the high school football season, providing a period for title contenders to separate themselves from the pack. It's also a month when we see premier players rise up to deliver clutch performances under pressure, as they push their teams to key victories.

Several college prospects provided impressive highlights in October on both sides of the ball. Here's a look at who thrived in the spotlight when it mattered most.

2015 QB Blake Barnett (Corona, California)

1 of 6

247Sports' Composite Ranking: No. 19 overall, No. 1 among dual-threat quarterbacks

October Success

Blake Barnett is fighting to keep his team in the playoff hunt and improved Santiago High School to 5-3 with a 2-1 month. He was sensational as a passer and runner throughout October, single-handedly altering the momentum of matchups at times.

He opened the month with a six-touchdown effort against Corona High School, completing 14 of his 17 passes for 256 yards and rushing for a 79-yard score in the 57-25 win, per MaxPreps. Barnett followed that performance with eight total touchdowns in the next two games, including a 491-yard passing clinic against King High School.

Through eight games, his senior season features 2,400 passing yards, 400 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns.

Recruitment Status

Barnett commanded immediate collegiate interest after taking over as Santiago's starting quarterback in 2013 and committed to Notre Dame last November. However, he backed off that verbal pledge this spring.

After spending time at Oregon and Alabama, Barnett committed to the Crimson Tide in June.

2015 WR Cordell Broadus (Las Vegas, Nevada)

2 of 6

247Sports' Composite Ranking: No. 133 overall, No. 14 among wide receivers

October Success

Cordell Broadus transferred to Nevada powerhouse Bishop Gorman High School for his senior season and has quickly become a key weapon for the nation's top-ranked high school squad. Though he managed just 19 receptions through the first six contests, his production increased in October.

The 6'2", 195-pound playmaker caught a touchdown in each game during the month, including a three-score effort against Legacy High School, per MaxPreps. Broadus enters November ranked second on the team with eight touchdown catches, already matching his 2013 total at Diamond Bar High School (California).

Recruitment Status

Broadus will spend Halloween weekend on an official visit at Arizona State, which is one of several Pac-12 programs in pursuit. Other contenders in the conference include Arizona, UCLA and USC.

His father, hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg, is an iconic Trojans fan. Broadus has also received strong interest from LSU, Baylor and Notre Dame.

2015 DT Breiden Fehoko (Honolulu, Hawaii)

247Sports' Composite Ranking: No. 48 overall, No. 7 among defensive tackles

October Success

Ferocious Farrington High School defender Breiden Fehoko continued his crusade against opposing quarterbacks in October, racking up four sacks in three wins. The 6'3", 290-pound lineman also tallied 15 tackles during that span, per MaxPreps.

Fehoko has found a way to disrupt the offensive backfield throughout his career, notching 12 sacks this season. He now has 36.5 sacks since the start of his junior campaign.

Recruitment Status

Fehoko committed to Texas Tech in April, picking the Red Raiders from an offer list that also includes Alabama, USC, Clemson and Ole Miss. His older brother, Sam, is a member of the team.

2015 QB Tucker Israel (Orlando, Florida)

5 of 6

247Sports' Composite Ranking: No. 771 overall, No. 23 among dual-threat quarterbacks

October Success

Tucker Israel is relentlessly cementing his legacy as one of the most productive passers ever to compete in high school football. The Lake Nona High School star became the third quarterback in history to throw for 600 yards in consecutive games this month, per Kevin Askeland of MaxPreps.

He completed 69 passes for 1,289 yards and 17 scores during a two-game stretch.

Mark it down as another accomplishment for the 6'0.5", 200-pound prospect, who also holds Florida state records for pass completions, passing yards and touchdown tosses. His senior season statistics continue to expand those totals.

Through nine games, Israel has thrown for 3,385 yards and 41 scores, adding another 400 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

247Sports' Composite Ranking: No. 40 overall, No. 3 among running backs

October Success

It was quite a month for Timber Creek High School stud Jacques Patrick, who announced his commitment to Florida State and accepted an All-American jersey. He didn't allow off-field events to affect his production, carrying the load during a 3-1 stretch that has his team in good shape for the postseason.

Patrick picked up at least 220 yards in each victory, scoring 12 rushing touchdowns in the process, per MaxPreps. Even in a 21-17 loss to Edgewater, he still managed 130 yards and a score.

Patrick now ranks seventh on Florida's all-time rushing list with more than 7,300 yards on the ground.

Recruitment Status

He kept the suspense lingering for a while, but Patrick finally revealed his collegiate intentions during an Oct. 27 ceremony. Florida State landed a commitment from the coveted running back, who also considered fellow finalists Florida, Texas A&M, Ohio State and Alabama.
