Tre Mason Injury: Updates on Rams RB's Hamstring and Return
St. Louis Rams running back Tre Mason suffered a hamstring injury during the preseason and was unable to play in the regular-season opener against the Seattle Seahawks.
However, the team announced that he will return against the Washington Redskins for Week 2.
On Sept. 17, Mason and rookie running back Todd Gurley practiced in full for the second day in a row, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
The former Auburn star sits atop the depth chart as St. Louis' starting running back as the team waits for Gurley, who was ruled out of the opener, to fully recover from his ACL injury. Selected in the third round in 2014, Mason was initially expected to have a long-term role, but Gurley's status leaves him in limbo.
"I was in shock, really," Mason told Nate Latsch of Scout.com during the summer. "Because I thought I did a good job last year. And at that time, I’m thinking a pick like that, that’s a replacement. At the end of the day, we’ve got to win a championship."
He compiled 765 yards and four touchdowns on the ground as a rookie—solid numbers that nonetheless left the Rams wanting a more foundational back.
Pass-blocking schemes remain largely a foreign concept to the 5'8", 207-pound speedster who thrived in Gus Malzahn's spread attack at Auburn. He's also yet to develop much of a pass-catching acumen, grabbing only 16 balls as a rookie.
The team has taken an understandably cautious approach with its running backs, considering the Rams could boast one of the league's best one-two punches when Gurley and Mason are healthy.
