Overview
Having lost both their warm-up games against India A, West Indies bounced back in the first ODI by completing a 124-run victory over India. The two teams will play the second match in Delhi, and India will look to bounce back after a somewhat shocking defeat in the first match.
But all is not so rosy in camp West Indies. A dispute is ongoing between the players and the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), and the players considered strike action at the start of the series. Players are concerned over payment but clearly put their differences aside during the first ODI.
According to ESPNcricinfo, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given its assurance to the West Indies players that it will stand by them during their fight.
An emphatic victory will have given the players even more of a bargaining chip, and they will be hoping to do the same in the second match. Marlon Samuels was particularly impressive, with his unbeaten century helping West Indies post a significant total.
Barring Bhuvneshwar Kumar, India's bowlers all struggled and were smashed around the mark. They now have an added concern. Mohit Sharma is out injured with shin issues, and Ishant Sharma has come in to replace him, per ESPNcricinfo.
Delhi is somewhat of a fortress for India. They have played 17 games here, winning 11 and losing just five. However, West Indies have played here thrice and won two out of those three times. India have not played a one-day international at this venue since January 2013. That was against Pakistan, and they won a low-scoring affair after being bowled out for just 167.
India have also never scored over 290 at this venue, and all of their matches played here in the last few years have been low-scoring affairs, with not a single total over 238 since April 2005.
It could be yet another low-scoring affair, which can be far more pressurised than high-total chases.
Key players
India
Kumar was India's best and most economical bowler in the first match, and with Delhi usually favouring the faster bowlers, Kumar can make a real impact on the match.
West Indies
Samuels proved his all-around worth against India in the first ODI, scoring a hundred and taking two wickets. He has become one of West Indies' most reliable players in recent years and has a stellar record against India. Expect more of the same from him this time.
