Ander Herrera's match for Manchester United against West Ham United on Saturday came to an abrupt end, as the Spaniard had to be substituted after 74 minutes with what appeared to be a back injury.
The club's Twitter feed shared the news:
The midfielder was having an excellent match for the Red Devils and has arguably been their best player early in the 2014-15 season, bringing some stability to a group of midfielders that has struggled both with injury and form.
The Daily Mirror's David McDonnell noted United's injury list keeps growing, while Wayne Rooney will face a suspension for his red card against West Ham:
Rooney's loss will sting, but the Red Devils have the offensive depth to cope with his absence. The same can't be said for their midfielders, where the drop in quality behind Herrera would be significant. Fans must hope the Spaniard was taken off as a precaution, as they'll need him when they host Everton next Sunday.
