Tennessee Titans vs. Indianapolis Colts Betting Odds Analysis and Prediction

OddsShark.comSep 26, 2014

The Indianapolis Colts finally earned their first win of the season last week against an AFC South foe and will meet another one on Sunday when they host the Tennessee Titans.

The Colts are 5-0 straight up and against the spread in their last five home games against divisional opponents and 5-0 SU and ATS in the last five meetings with the Titans.

Point spread: The Colts opened as 6.5-point favorites, but Indy bettors forced the number to nine points by Friday; the total was 45 (line updates and matchup report).

Why the Titans can cover the spread

Whenever you play a divisional game in the NFL, you are supposed to have a chance. While that has not been the case recently when the Titans play the Colts, they do have a new head coach in Ken Whisenhunt, who is ready to end their series skid vs. Indy.

Tennessee has struggled offensively in its last two games since winning the season opener 26-10 on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs. Whisenhunt is an offensive mastermind who enjoyed a lot of success with the San Diego Chargers last year and as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals before that.

He knows how to make the right adjustments and just needs to remind his players that this Indianapolis team was winless before beating the hapless Jacksonville Jaguars last week.

Why the Colts can cover the spread

The Colts were able to gain a lot of confidence from their 44-17 win over the Jaguars and must not get too overconfident heading into this AFC South matchup. Much like they have played against Jacksonville recently, they have been equally dominant versus Tennessee.

Indianapolis has also gone 3-1 SU and ATS its last four games as a home favorite, with the lone loss during that stretch coming in Week 2 against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football.

The Colts looked like they learned from their first two losses in beating up the Jags, and the key for them now is to simply remain focused on the task at hand, which is winning another division title.

Smart Pick

It usually takes some time for a new coach to get comfortable in his new surroundings, and that certainly appears to be the case with Whisenhunt and the Titans, who are just 1-7-1 ATS in their last nine road games against AFC South opponents.

Unfortunately for him, he inherits that negative trend and will be hard-pressed to reverse it at Indy. The Colts are still the best team in the division and finally played a complete game in routing Jacksonville.

Unlike the slow starts that plagued them in losing their first two games, they jumped out to a 30-0 lead against the Jags and cruised from there.

Look for Indianapolis to get off to another fast start and overwhelm Tennessee in an easy win.

Trends

  • Tennessee is 1-3-1 ATS in its last five games on the road
  • Indianapolis is 13-3 SU in its last 16 games at home
