Arsenal Transfer News: Buzz on Marco Reus, Sami Khedira and More
Arsenal are off to a strong start in the new Premier League campaign as one of just two clubs without a loss through five matches. Yet, while the main focus right now is on the pitch, the transfer winds never stop blowing around Europe.
As one of the most high-profile clubs in Europe, the Gunners are constantly being linked to potential blockbuster moves. Whether they will actually come to fruition in January or next summer is far less of a certainty, of course.
So let's check out some of the latest buzz making its way around the rumor mill, examine the likelihood of a deal and the potential impact the players could make if they did head for Emirates Stadium.

Marco Reus
Reus has enjoyed a steady rise to become one of the most dangerous attacking midfielders in the world. He's a key piece of the Borussia Dortmund puzzle, but with the German side unable to lock him into a new long-term deal, questions continue to be raised about his future.
Anthony Chapman of the Express reports Arsenal are one of three Premier League clubs, along with Manchester United and Liverpool, prepared to enter the sweepstakes at season's end. He notes they will face no shortage of competition, though:
"The Germany international is wanted by a number of top European clubs including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, but is believed to favour a Premier League switch should he quit the Bundesliga.
"
While the Gunners wouldn't turn down the chance to add Reus if the option was on the table, they have a lot of depth in the midfield. They would probably have to clear out the logjam to make it possible, and it's a long shot to begin with. But it's apparently something being monitored at the very least.
Sami Khedira
The Real Madrid squad is flooded with talent after another active summer, which further bolstered an already world-class collection of players. It means certain big names, like Khedira, aren't guaranteed the consistent playing time they are used to receiving.
It could result in an exit for the German international come January. Alex Richards of the Mirror reports Arsenal are prepared to offer £11 million to complete the midseason move, but once again there would be competition for his signature:
"However they could face competition from his homeland, with Bayern Munich rumoured to be keen on taking the World Cup winner—although Die Roten would reportedly prefer to wait until next summer—while Jose Mourinho is also known to be a fan.
"
The biggest concern here is Khedira's inability to stay healthy as of late. He's battled various ailments since the start of last term. The last thing a team wants to do is splash a large amount of money on a growing injury risk. If he proves he can stay healthy, however, he would be a good fit.
Ron Vlaar
It was a surprise Arsenal didn't add a proven central defender for depth after Thomas Vermaelen left for Barcelona. Depending on how things play out over the next few months, there's a good chance Arsene Wenger will be in the market for one come January.
A name that's already being suggested is Ron Vlaar. The Aston Villa veteran has been one of the league's most reliable in recent seasons. Vaishali Bhardwaj of Metro notes Manchester United are also interested, with the Villans deciding what to do:
"Arsenal and Manchester United are preparing to go head-to-head in their pursuit of Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar in January.
The Netherlands international will become a free agent at the end of this season when his contract with Villa expires, and has not yet held talks about extending his deal with the club.
"
Vlaar would be an ideal addition, but it's unknown if he would move away from Villa into a position where he's likely to join a rotation with Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny. The situation should become more clear in the weeks ahead.
