Cristiano Ronaldo's Greatest Headed Goals
Any rumours of an injury slowing Cristiano Ronaldo down have been put to rest by his recent form. The Real Madrid star has scored seven goals in his past two games, putting him on a tally of 12 goals in seven appearances for his club this season, per ESPNFC.
One of the facets of Ronaldo's game that distinguishes him from fellow megastar Leo Messi is his heading ability. Ronaldo scores a large proportion of his goals with his head, often after superhuman leaps or cheetah-esque sprints. In fact, Ronaldo has scored two impressive headers this week.
Here's a 10-part ode to Ronaldo's headers, ranking the 10 finest from his career.
10. At Deportivo La Coruna, September 2014
1 of 10Ronaldo scored his 24th Real Madrid hat-trick during the 8-2 rout of Deportivo La Coruna last week.
He scored his first goal in the 28th minute—a superb header, which had plenty of pace, despite the fact he had to lean quite far back to make contact.
9. vs. Atletico Madrid, May 2013
2 of 10Ronaldo opened the scoring in the 2013 Copa del Rey final with one of his trademark leaping headers.
It wasn't enough to inspire Los Blancos to victory, however, as Diego Costa and Miranda helped city rivals Atletico Madrid earn a 2-1 win.
8. vs. Tottenham, April 2009
3 of 10
Just when they were closing in on the Premier League title, Manchester United went 2-0 down to Tottenham in April 2009.
However, they ended up winning 5-2, thanks in part to a brilliant low header that Ronaldo guided in from a pacey Wayne Rooney cross.
7. vs. Blackburn, November 2007
4 of 10
Cristiano Ronaldo put Manchester United three points clear at the top of the Premiership in November 2007 with both goals in a 2-0 victory over Blackburn.
His first was a perfect header from a Ryan Giggs corner. Just look at the hang time he gets before making contact with the ball.
6. vs. Levante, March 2014
5 of 10Los Blancos beat Levante 3-0 at home in March 2014, with Ronaldo opening the scoring in the 11th minute with a header from an Angel Di Maria corner.
This may look like a simple effort, but Ronaldo is behind the penalty spot when he makes contact and does incredibly well to guide it through traffic in the box.
5. At Barcelona, August 2012
6 of 10Real Madrid ended up winning the 2012 Spanish Super Cup against Barcelona on away goals, the first of which was a fine Ronaldo header from a Mesut Ozil corner.
4. vs. Chelsea, August 2013
7 of 10In the 2013-14 pre-season, Real Madrid faced Chelsea (along with former boss Jose Mourinho) in Miami for a friendly.
Los Blancos won the match 3-1, with Ronaldo contributing a fantastic header. The best part of the goal is the darting run, which caught the Blues defence completely unaware and helped the Portuguese star put plenty of power behind the ball.
3. vs. Barcelona, April 2011
8 of 10When normal time of the 2011 Copa del Rey final between Madrid and Barcelona finished goalless, Ronaldo saved the day in overtime by using his head to great effect.
This bullet header is one of several on this list that came as a result of an Angel Di Maria cross. CR7 must be missing his former colleague.
2. At Roma, April 2008
9 of 10When Paul Scholes floats in a cross in the clip above, Ronaldo isn't even in the shot.
With tremendous pace, he steams into the area, beats several Roma defenders in the air and nods a bullet into the net.
1. vs. Manchester United, February 2013
10 of 10Ronaldo's finest header of all time might have been his incredible leap in a Champions League match against former side Manchester United last year.
According to The Telegraph, studies have shown the Portuguese star can leap 78 centimeters in the air—higher than the average NBA player can jump—and can generate 5g of G-Force upon take off.
He surely used this power when meeting Angel Di Maria's cross.
