Sandro and the Most Embarrassing Footballer Injuries
Queens Park Rangers midfielder Sandro is likely to miss his side's trip to Southampton this weekend after picking up an extremely avoidable injury.
According to The Express, the zany Brazilian damaged his knee while celebrating a goal in a training match.
The Brazilian isn't the first footballer to pick up an embarrassing injury—here are 10 more impediments that probably should not have happened...
Paulo Diogo's Wedding Ring Sting

Sandro's celebration might have been painful, but it was nowhere near as bad as that of Paulo Diogo in a Swiss league game in 2004.
Upon scoring for his side Servette against Schaffhausen, the midfielder ran to the perimeter fence and jumped up to greet fans. His wedding ring became caught on the fence and ended up ripping off part of his finger as he jumped down.
To add insult to injury, he was given a yellow card.
Fabian Espindola's Fateful Flip
2 of 10
Argentinean striker Fabian Espindola typically likes to celebrate goals with a backflip.
While playing for Real Salt Lake against LA Galaxy in 2008, this move proved to be somewhat embarrassing—after putting the ball in the net, he performed his trademark move and somehow broke his leg in the process.
To make matters worse, the goal was ruled out for offside.
Richard Wright's Vital Sign
3 of 10Goalkeeper Richard Wright was forced to sit out Everton's Premier League visit to Stamford Bridge in the 2005-06 season when he injured his ankle in a very humiliating manner.
During the pre-match warm-up, Wright tripped on a sign positioned within the goalmouth.
The sign was a request not to warm up in the goalmouth. Oh, the irony.
Rio Ferdinand's TV Travesty
4 of 10
We all know that too much television is bad for your health, but who knew the idiot box could cause a setback in a footballer's career?
In 2001, Rio Ferdinand was put out of action at Leeds when he strained a tendon behind his knee while watching TV.
"It was a freak accident, and typical of this season," said his baffled manager David O'Leary at the time.
Kieron Dyer's Pole Position
5 of 10
Kieron Dyer suffered plenty of injury troubles during his time at Newcastle, but none so embarrassing as the training ground injury he picked up in 2006.
While performing some kind of training drill, the former England midfielder managed to poke himself in the eye with a marker pole.
The mortifying injury was so bad that he wasn't even able to train for a fortnight.
Julio Arca's Stinging Swim
6 of 10
Concluding a beach training session with a swim in the chilly waters of the North Sea sounds punishing enough, but Julio Arca's experience in August 2004 was particularly troublesome.
While taking a dunk in the sea, the Argentine midfielder was stung in the chest by a jellyfish. It caused an allergic reaction that required hospital treatment.
Allan Nielsen's Eye for Trouble
7 of 10
Becoming a father is a seminal moment in any man's life, but it can have its downsides for professional footballers.
While at Tottenham, midfielder Allan Nielsen was forced to sit out several games when his baby daughter poked him in the eye.
Steve Morrow's Shoulder Sorrow
8 of 10
Steve Morrow scored his first and only goal for Arsenal in the 1993 League Cup final, in what proved to be the winner in a close match with Sheffield Wednesday.
The Northern Ireland defender was the hero, but he ended up being taking to hospital thanks to some unwise horseplay. When team-mate Tony Adams' attempted to lift Morrow on his shoulders failed, he hit the ground and broke his collarbone.
Leroy Lita's Bedroom Antics
9 of 10
There are plenty of embarrassing incidents that could lead to an injury in bed, but Leroy Lita's famous malady in August 2007 (apparently) didn't involve anything salacious.
One morning while playing at Reading, the striker awoke from his slumbers and strained a leg muscle while stretching.
"Leroy is in a great deal of pain," said Royals manager Steve Coppell, presumably trying to work out if it was only a stretch that lead to his bedroom injury.
Darius Vassell's Home Surgery Howler
10 of 10
Darius Vassell's career was ended by a ligament injury in 2012, but in 2007 he forced himself on to the sidelines with a bizarre attempt at DIY surgery.
Upon discovering a blood blister under a toe nail, the former England forward decided to try and relieve the pressure with an electric drill. The incident caused an infection that required removal of the whole toe nail.
Presumably, if he had taken the problem to Aston Villa's medical staff, they wouldn't have produced the Black & Decker.
