WWE Raw: Potential Spoilers, Rumors, News and Preview for Sept. 22

Ryan DilbertSep 22, 2014

On the Sept. 22 edition of WWE Raw, Seth Rollins will find adversaries coming at him from every direction.

He not only has to face the man whose head he smashed into a stack of cinder blocks, but Rollins made new enemies at Night of Champions in John Cena and Brock Lesnar. He'll need all the protection The Authority can offer.

Sunday's pay-per-view crowned a number of new titleholders who are sure to be featured as Raw hits the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee.

The biggest unanswered question heading into that show is whether WWE is going to have a "new generation" join the promotion. A hint on Twitter has led to rumors, rumblings and raised expectations.

Digging into that possibility, examining James Wortman's five-point preview on WWE.com and sifting through the latest reports provide a solid look of what to expect on Monday's Raw.

News, Potential Spoilers

WWE has something involving a "new generation" planned for Monday's Raw, but it's likely not as thrilling as it sounds.

The company's official Twitter account tweeted a tease of an arrival of some sort:

Some may interpret that as WWE talking about Sami Zayn, Kevin Steen and some of the other big-name prospects at NXT. After all, Zayn and company were dubbed "WWE's new New Generation" in a recent article on WWE.com.

In addition, Zayn, Tyler Breeze and Adrian Neville are booked to be at the next few TV tapings.

Writing for PWInsider.com, Mike Johnson reported last week that "Sami Zayn and Tyler Breeze are currently scheduled for the next few weeks while we are told NXT champion Adrian Neville is currently scheduled to be at the tapings well into October."

Signs point to this just being a promotion for WWE 2K15, though.

For one, a key figure in the video game took part in the conversation. Sting tweeted about Sept. 22, seemingly marking it as something that he'd be involved with:

That sounds more like him being around to hype the game than something involving the NXT stars. On top of that, the WWE Network is scheduled to air (subscription required) the WWE 2K15 roster reveal event from August right after Monday's Raw.

PWMania.com quotes Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter as saying, "This is not something to get excited about or you will be disappointed. It's a Dixie Carter level surprise."

It sounds as if Meltzer is right here. Hideo Itami just debuted at NXT, while Steen and Fergal Devitt have yet to do so. It makes little sense for them to jump to the main roster right now. It would also be strange to promote an appearance from Zayn, Breeze and Neville this way, when they already debuted on Raw.

However, Monday could be The Ascension's time to rise.

Johnson noted last week on PWInsider that The Ascension were also "brought to Raw and SmackDown." They have also been working a number of main-roster live events as of late.

Half of the newly crowned tag champs hinted that their next challengers could be Konnor and Viktor.

In an interview with Chuck Carroll on CBS DC, Stardust said, "The inevitable is that a new challenger needs to step up. Perhaps, someone we haven't seen." He also added, "Even a team like NXT’s The Ascension would be a fitting little appetizer."

That may be something that happens further down the road, but post pay-per-view editions of Raw often feature surprises such as new stars debuting.

WWE will need a boost in roster depth anyway. Roman Reigns, for one, is not showing up to Memphis.

WWE.com reported over the weekend that Reigns had "undergone emergency surgery for an incarcerated hernia." He was unable to compete at Night of Champions and could now be out for several months.

Chris Jericho will likely be absent as well.

PWInsider's Johnson wrote, "Jericho is slated to finish up with WWE on Sunday 9/21 at Night of Champions." Jericho lost to Randy Orton at Night of Champions and later thanked the WWE fans on Twitter:

Dean Ambrose being back in action will help counteract the loss of Jericho and Reigns.

Night of Champions Fallout

Ambrose ended his recent hiatus by doing just what he had been before he left—chasing down Rollins. The Lunatic Fringe made a surprise return at Night of Champions, and it looks as if we can expect more of his fury toward his old partner.

Security guards had to restrain and remove Ambrose from the building after he attacked Rollins.

In the WWE.com preview, Wortman asks, "Will Ambrose strike again on Raw?" You can count on it. Fans have seen him go after Rollins at every turn, and after Night of Champions, it's clear that being away hasn't dissipated his hunger for revenge.

Rollins won't just have Ambrose to worry about, though.

Mr. Money in the Bank interrupted Sunday's main event, ambushing Cena and hitting a Curb Stomp on Brock Lesnar in a failed cash-in attempt. Cena called Rollins "foolish" in an interview after the bout:

That and Lesnar's certain anger leads Wortman to ask, "Has Rollins made himself a target of both of last night's main event participants?"

It promises to be a tough night for Rollins.

After The Miz used a distraction and a handful of tights to dethrone Dolph Ziggler at Night of Champions, one may have wondered if that feud would continue or if the self-proclaimed A-lister would move on to another foe. It appears that the former is true.

On WWE.com, Wortman doesn't talk of The Miz heading elsewhere. He talks of Ziggler getting another crack at him, writing, "Expect The Showoff to look for retribution tonight."

That seems to be case with Paige and AJ Lee as well. AJ defeated Paige on Sunday to become Divas champ once more.

Wortman hints that this feud will keep rolling: "The Diva of Tomorrow won’t let this defeat go lightly."

After the lack of a definitive finish between Cena and Lesnar, one would guess that Hell in a Cell will feature their third straight pay-per-view collision. However, it's not clear whether Lesnar will be in Memphis to build toward that bout.

Lesnar's mug is the primary image for the five-point preview, but he's not advertised to appear on WWE.com, as noted by Marc Middleton of Wrestling Inc. The preview poses the question, "What's next for Brock Lesnar?" but then focuses more on Rollins and Cena.

With or without The Beast Incarnate, Monday's Raw has plenty to cover with rivalries progressing and loose ends from Night of Champions to tie up.
