Knight played in eight games as a freshman in 2013, but he didn't make much of an impact until a transcendent MVP performance against Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, which led to sky-high expectations in the spring.
He has lived up to the hype during his sophomore campaign, carving up defenses and establishing himself as a legitimate Heisman contender.
“Last year was a lot different. He knows he’s the man now," said wide receiver Sterling Shepard, via NewsOK.com's Jason Kersey, after Knight threw for 303 yards in a win over Tennessee. "He can make those shots. He has a lot of free reign now to do what he likes on the field now, so you’ll be seeing that every week.”
Not only has Knight played extremely well, but the lack of experience behind him on the depth chart makes his health even more crucial for Oklahoma's success.
With former quarterback Blake Bell playing tight end, the Sooners will have to turn to Cody Thomas if Knight is forced to miss any time. The redshirt freshman has attempted just four throws in his career.
