PSG Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of September 15

Jonathan JohnsonSep 15, 2014

With the summer transfer window now a fading memory for Paris Saint-Germain, the French champions can concentrate on more pressing matters. Les Parisiens have made a slow start to their Ligue 1 campaign—registering two wins and three draws—and they also kick-off their UEFA Champions League campaign in Amsterdam this week.

Transfers will not be top of the agenda at the Parc des Princes right now, but there have still been whisperings about PSG's latest plans and potential moves being lined up ahead of the January transfer window.

The capital club's coach, Laurent Blanc, will be keen to keep his current squad intact and perhaps hopes to add one or two new faces in January. However, that will depend on whether or not UEFA's Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules are still wreaking havoc with PSG's transfer plans.

Joaquin Correa

Since the start of the season, it has been obvious that there is still a creative deficiency in this current PSG side. In an attempt to remedy that, and to possibly get the best value for money in the current UEFA Financial Fair Play (FFP) climate, Les Parisiens have now turned their attention towards South America.

According to Ole (h/t the tweet from Football Radar's Jack Rathborn), PSG and Chelsea have both sent scouts to watch Estudiantes de La Plata playmaker Joaquin Correa in action against Club de Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata. The pair meet on Saturday and the 20-year-old is expected to be the main attraction at Estadio Ciudad de La Plata.

Edinson Cavani

Edinson Cavani's proposed move away from PSG was one of the most drawn-out sagas of this summer's transfer window. The Uruguayan stayed in the French capital in the end, but according to L'Equipe (h/t the Daily Express' Anthony Chapman) is still unhappy at the club thanks to his positioning on the pitch.

The report suggests that Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger had an offer of £50m (€63.7m) rejected this summer, but that the Frenchman could revisit his interest in El Matador. Cavani is believed to be ready to consider a move as early as January.

Ezequiel Lavezzi

PSG's Ezequiel Lavezzi was linked with a move away from the French capital during this summer's transfer window, but remains at the club. The 29-year-old Argentine international has endured a difficult start to the season, spending the majority of his time on the bench.

According to Get French Football News' Antoine Kornprobst, the PSG No. 22 is unhappy in Paris and wants a move to Inter Milan. However, les Parisiens are unwilling to sell and that prevented the player from leaving during the summer.

Martin Odegaard

Stromsgodset's 15-year-old Norwegian sensation Alexander Odegaard made waves earlier this year when he made his international debut against the United Arab Emirates to become the youngest player to ever play for his country. The teenage attacking midfielder has become hot property since.

According to Calcio Mercato (h/t topmercato.com in French), PSG are keeping their eyes on the young sensation. The French champions also reportedly face competition from Juventus and Liverpool for Odegaard's signature.

Adrien Rabiot

Adrien Rabiot's future was the subject of intense speculation over the summer, but a transfer did not materialise for the 19-year-old before the end of the window. AS Roma were among those linked strongly with a move for the talented young French midfielder, but a host of other sides—such as English Premier League outfit Arsenal—were also credited with an interest.

According to David Amoyal of gianlucadimarzio.com's English-speaking team, PSG are due to meet with Roma later this week to discuss Rabiot. Last week it was confirmed that PSG had left Rabiot out of their UEFA Champions League squad for this season, meaning that he would be eligible to play in continental competition for either side if he makes the move early next year.

France Football (h/t ESPN FC's Ian Holyman) also revealed that Rabiot has rejected another offer of a contract extension from PSG because it did not meet his astronomic demands.

Marco Verratti

6 of 6

One player who will not be leaving PSG in January, or anytime soon, is Italian international midfielder Marco Verratti. The French champions announced on Monday afternoon that the diminutive Azzurri star has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2019, according to PSG.fr.

"

The new deal for Verratti is great news for the club and it follows hot on the heels of Salvatore Sirigu and Jean-Christophe Bahebeck's recent extensions. Italian outfit Il Centro (h/t French Football Weekly's second tweet) reported at the start of September that Verratti's new deal is expected to earn him an annual salary of €4m.

"

Il Centro: Marco Verratti has agreed to sign a new contract at PSG. The Italian will extend his stay until 2019 & earn €4m per year.

Verratti pledging his future to PSG should end speculation over his future, with the 21-year-old having been regularly linked with Spanish giants Real Madrid since Carlo Ancelotti left the Parc des Princes for the Santiago Bernabeu.
