Frank Gore, Carlos Hyde's Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 2
The San Francisco 49ers' rushing attack has been in good hands since running back Frank Gore burst onto the scene in 2006. The 31-year-old has showed few signs of slowing down in 2014, which is a plus for his faithful fantasy owners but also throws up an obstacle for those expecting rookie Carlos Hyde to immediately become an integral part of the team's attack.
Here are the final Week 2 stats for the two backs after the 49ers disappointing loss to the Chicago Bears.
| Gore | 13 | 63 | 4.8 | 1 | 2 | 12 |
| Hyde | 4 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 5 |

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Gore, as the elder statesman in the backfield, is still very much the lead back and in control of his starting job. He picked up 58 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries through the first three quarters of the 49ers' Week 2 contest against the Chicago Bears.

Carlos Hyde struggled to gain any traction, notching negative-three yards on three carries through three quarters.
Vice Sports' Lindsey Adler pointed out the troubling correlation between Hyde fan jerseys and yardage toward the end of the third quarter:
"Carlos Hyde jerseys I've seen: 3 Carlos Hyde rushing yards: -3

Hyde racked up 50 yards and scored a touchdown in his NFL debut, but he won't be a consistent producer in his rookie season with Gore healthy. Hyde only had seven carries in Week 1, while Gore toted the pigskin 16 times.
The plan in San Fran seems to be to use Gore while he's still able to perform at an above-average level. Fantasy football owners would be wise to do the same and start him as often as possible. Should the veteran back go down, Hyde would be an immediate pickup and a fine option as a starter in larger leagues.
Until then, expect Gore to put up solid numbers every week while Hyde picks up the scraps when he can as he builds the foundation for what should be a bright future in the NFL.
