Mayweather vs. Maidana 2 Winner: Latest Post-Fight Reaction to Money's Win

Gianni VerschuerenSep 14, 2014

Floyd Mayweather (47-0, 26 KOs) did what he was expected to do on Saturday night, scoring a unanimous-decision win over Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31 KOs) at the MGM Grand in their highly anticipated rematch.

The Argentine challenger displayed more patience in their second bout but still tried to turn the fight into a slugfest, but Money came prepared. The 37-year-old's legs defied the test of time, as Mayweather's movement around the ring made it that much harder for Maidana to land any significant punches.

Maidana didn't make things easy for the pound-for-pound king, but in the end, Mayweather's undefeated streak was never in doubt. Two judges scored the fight 116-111 in his favour, with the third scoring it 115-112.

As shared by ESPN Stats and Info, CompuBox's statistics showed Maidana was much more reserved in how he attacked Mayweather this time around:

Heavyweight Tony Bellew didn't watch the fight live, but he couldn't hide his appreciation for Mayweather's boxing IQ after he made it through the entire bout:

Fans have been dying to watch the undefeated Mayweather take on eternal rival Manny Pacquiao for years, and according to The Telegraph, Money is finally willing to make it happen:

ESPN's Skip Bayless remains a skeptic, however:

Pundits assume Mayweather's next opponent will be Britain's Amir Khan at Wembley Stadium, and via Sky Sports Boxing, the latter is already dropping the gauntlet:

The champion didn't appear impressed, however:

As shared by SportsCenter, Mayweather earned a pretty penny during the bout:

The man thanked only one person:

With the Maidana rematch now out of the way, plenty of fans and pundits are speculating what the future will hold for the 37-year-old. Former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson has a theory:

While a fight with Khan makes sense, it's not the fight everyone has been waiting for. Like Maidana, Khan would be hyped as the type of opponent who could hurt Money but has little chance of actually beating him.

A superfight with Pacquiao seemed nearly impossible just a few months ago, but if both parties are willing to make it happen, it could be one of the biggest fights ever and the perfect way for Mayweather to close out a magnificent career.
