2015 Recruits Whose Stocks Are Rising So Far
Recruiting has become a process that operates at warp speed in recent years, with many of the nation’s top seniors already having made verbal commitments long before the final year of their prep career began.
However, a handful of recruits still have plenty to gain during their last year on the prep level.
Whether its underrated players fighting to earn offers or late-bloomers who catch the attention of powerhouse programs, the first three weeks of the 2014 season have seen a few players start off with a flurry.
Which 2015 recruits are seeing increased interest thus far?
*Players are listed in alphabetical order.
Lawrence Cager
1 of 6In July, the fuse was lit in regard to the surge of interest in 3-star Maryland receiver Lawrence Cager.
In addition to having a strong showing at The Opening at the beginning of the month, the 6’5”, 202-pounder picked up offers from Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama and Ohio State.
He has since added tenders from Michigan State and Kansas State in the last two weeks.
With the list of his potential suitors rapidly increasing, Cager is likely to be one of the most coveted prospects in the country until the dust settles on the 2015 class.
Antonio Callaway
2 of 6It’s hard to imagine a prospect who has steadily risen in the eyes of talent evaluators as much as 3-star Florida native Antonio Callaway has over the last six months.
Callaway, who plays for Miami powerhouse Booker T. Washington High School, had a decent junior season for the Tornadoes, accounting for 505 yards of total offense and six touchdowns.
However, after tearing up the summer camp circuit, he earned offers from powers such as Florida State, Florida, Miami, LSU and Georgia, with the Tigers being the most recent to join the race to land the electric 6'1”, 185-pound playmaker.
As Barton Simmons of 247Sports notes, Callaway has climbed in the rankings while getting off to a strong start to his senior season.
Davante Davis
3 of 6
Similar to his prep teammate Callaway, rising Booker T. Washington (Fla.) corner Davante Davis has become a hot commodity over the summer.
The 6’3”, 200-pound defensive back has nabbed offers from Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama, Florida State and Florida over the last five months.
When the most recent contact period began at the start of this month, one school in particular was after Davis the most.
“Probably Florida State and [Tim] Brewster,” Davis told Luke Stampini of 247Sports (subscription required). “He always keeps in contact with me and makes conversation with me and see how my family is doing and all of that. They want me at Florida State and things like that.”
With the defending national champions leading the charge in pursuing Davis, his recruitment represents one of the more intriguing battles to watch in the final months before signing day.
Jaylinn Hawkins
4 of 6While Jaylinn Hawkins is already one of the top receivers in the 2015 class, it’s hard to imagine a player having a more impressive start to his senior season than what the 6’1”, 180-pound California native has done.
As Bleacher Report's Tyler Donohue detailed, Hawkins has racked up 575 yards receiving and six scores in his first two games.
Hawkins already holds offers from a number of Pac-12 schools, including Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Arizona and Cal.
If he continues his torrid production over the rest of the season, Hawkins will command more attention from the nation’s top powers as signing day approaches.
Jamarius Henderson
5 of 6
Ever since he decommitted from his pledge to UAB last month, 3-star Alabama running back Jamarius Henderson has seen the interest in his recruitment explode.
As AL.com’s John Talty detailed recently, Kentucky, Miami and Louisville are among the teams that are coming after him the hardest. However, SEC powers such as Alabama, Auburn and Georgia are still maintaining contact with him.
"They told me they loved me at camp," Henderson said of Alabama’s interest in him. "They want me to be part of something great and to not give up on them. I'm keeping my options open."
Additionally, Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn made an appearance at his game last weekend, and Henderson put on a show for him, rushing for 253 yards and four touchdowns, per Scout.com’s John Garcia Jr.
With the interest in him growing, expect the buzz on Henderson to continue to soar.
Joseph Wicker
6 of 6Poly High School in Long Beach, California, has long been a must-stop for coaches on the recruiting trail, and this year is no different with the presence of 5-star corner Iman Marshall.
However, the most disruptive force on the Jackrabbits defense thus far has been 4-star defensive tackle Joseph Wicker.
As B/R’s Tyler Donohue noted, Wicker has been all over the field, recording eight sacks and forcing four fumbles in the last two games. Additionally, he’s picked up offers from UCLA and Texas Tech earlier this week.
Even though Wicker—who is ranked as the No. 228 overall prospect in the 2015 class—is a known quantity, he doesn’t carry the hype of fellow Golden State defensive tackles such as Kahlil McKenzie, Rasheem Green and Jacob Daniel.
However, as his recent play and swelling offer list show, Wicker is crafting a strong case to be billed as one of the nation’s top defensive tackles by season’s end.
