Manchester United centre-back Phil Jones was forced to leave the pitch with an apparent hamstring injury during England's Euro 2016 qualifier against Switzerland, putting a question mark next to his name for United's match against Queens Park Rangers.
England's Twitter feed announced the substitution late in their fixture in Basel, as the 22-year-old was replaced by Everton's Phil Jagielka:
Bleacher Report's Jerrad Peters confirmed Jones appeared to suffer a hamstring injury:
Jones is a pivotal member of the Red Devils' back three, and the Manchester Evening News' Rob Dawson didn't like the news from a club perspective:
The centre-back didn't appear to pick up the injury in a direct confrontation with a Swiss player but visibly started to limp late in the match, indicating that the muscle perhaps just got overworked.
As shared by Squawka, Jones has made an excellent start to the 2014-15 season:
It's far too early to speculate on the extent of the injury, but problems with the hamstring have a tendency to linger if a player is rushed back to the pitch.
United won't play QPR for almost a week, so the club will have plenty of opportunities to assess the damage and act accordingly.
New signing Marcos Rojo is expected to make his debut on Sunday, playing on the left side of the Red Devils' back three. This likely means one of the current starters would shift wide, giving United plenty of experience in defence in the absence of Jones.
