Germany vs. Scotland: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

James DudkoSep 6, 2014

Germany need to rebound from their 4-2 home defeat to Argentina by beating Scotland in a vital qualifying match for Euro 2016. Unfortunately, the chances of a rebound have been made tougher by a growing injury list.

Already without Mesut Ozil and skipper Bastian Schweinsteiger, the 2014 FIFA World Cup winners have now lost centre-back Mats Hummels and promising forward Julian Draxler.

That's likely to buoy a Scotland squad already promising a no-fear approach against their illustrious opponent. Before delving into a preview, here's the relevant schedule information:

Marco Reus Wants More from Injured Germany

The German squad is ailing, thanks to several injury-enforced omissions. But that hasn't stopped Marco Reus from demanding more.

The Borussia Dortmund forward has called on his teammates to rebound from the Argentina defeat, per BBC Scotland reporter Alasdair Lamont:

"

Scotland have not lost for six games and are a strong team with a fighting spirit.

They close down spaces quickly and so we will need patience and to be much better than against Argentina.

We need to be more effective in front of goal.

"

It's interesting that Reus notes the need to be more ruthless with scoring chances. That won't be easy without Ozil and Draxler.

The attack-minded pair have been ruled out, per Daily Express reporter Scott Burns. Ozil's creativity could be the biggest miss.

The mercurial playmaker has the knack for those little passes in and around the box that always seem to leave defenders stranded and tend to find a free man in space.

Draxler is certainly more direct as the type of player who would expect to find himself latching onto Ozil's passes. His acceleration and shooting power would pose a major threat to the Scots.

Improvement in the German attack will be keyed by the speed of their combination passing in midfield. That's what Scotland must look to stifle early and often.

Barry Bannan Ready to Play Key Role in Midfield

The Scots might not turn to a spoiling game if the defiant talk from manager Gordon Strachan is anything to go by. Strachan has stressed how his squad has no fear about facing the world champions on German soil, per Sky Sports:

"

So I'm encouraged by that. There seems to be no fear whatsoever in the camp. There's a reality obviously, we are playing the world champions. But there's no fear. I like that.

They are not scared of the occasion and where they have got to go. I was speaking to somebody last night that, when you play the game you have a fear of getting beat and when you have the ball, you have no fear.

"

Strachan's determination for his players to use the ball well and take the initiative in possession, puts the spotlight on Bannan. The Crystal Palace playmaker has frankly been floundering at club level, but Bannan can pick a pass as well as most. He is also a threat to score, thanks to a powerful shot from outside the box.

While club managers haven't always taken to the 24-year-old, he's been a favourite for Strachan. That's a level of faith the Premier League player is determined to repay, per Daily Record reporter Craig Swan:

"

But the Scotland manager has shown great faith in me and every time I come away I love it.

It’s a great atmosphere, the training is brilliant and when a manager keeps bringing you into the squad you enjoy it even more. Hopefully if called upon on Sunday I can do a job for him.

"

Bannan will want to dictate play, considering that's what suits his natural game. Yet despite the calls to be brave, Bannan and his midfield compatriots may have little choice but to sit deep and cut off space to deny Germany's pass-and-move game.

At the very least, the Scots are going to have to keep things solid during the game's early period. That's the best way to get their celebrated hosts frustrated.

Predicted Final Score: Germany 3-1 Scotland

Germany will overcome a nervy start to eventually play their way through and release pace behind a stubborn Scotland defence.

After the slip against Argentina, the result will be a reminder of Germany's class, as well as an early precursor of their intention to dominate at Euro 2016. For the Scots, it will serve as a painful reminder of the daunting task they face just to qualify for the tournament.
