Haden Injures Shoulder, Does Not Return

Sunday, Dec. 14

Cleveland Browns Pro Bowl cornerback Joe Haden left the team's Week 15 matchup vs. Cincinnati with a shoulder injury.

Haden would later be ruled out for the game, which ended 30-0 in the Bengals' favor. Afterward, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler provided an update.

Haden is the Browns' best cornerback and a key cog in the multifaceted defensive system first-year head coach Mike Pettine brought to Cleveland.

The top candidate to be pressed into action on the outside is Buster Skrine, though he's suited more for a slot role due to his slighter frame.

Rookie fourth-round draft pick Pierre Desir, who is 6'2" and 206 pounds, can get physical with bigger receivers. However, he must prove capable of tackling and playing more consistently up to NFL competition as a product of a Division II program in Lindenwood.

The Browns have been such a star-crossed franchise since reentering the league in 1999. Amid a period of rare optimism, losing a player of Haden's caliber would be a severe setback to Cleveland's hopes of turning things around amid a perpetual period of languish and anguish in the AFC North cellar.
