World Cup 2014: Updated Group Standings and Scores Following Day 13 Results
On the surface, it looked like Tuesday's schedule was going to lack drama. With the way this World Cup has played out, though, we should have known better.
There was a red card, something that looked awfully like another Luis Suarez bite (which didn't receive a red card), a late winner, an even later winner on a penalty and a transcendent team performance.
Ho-hum. Just another day in Brazil.

There were four matches and a slew of wonderful performances Tuesday, but much of the focus unfortunately surrounded Luis Suarez, who appeared to get hungry. Again.
Take a look:
Giorgio Chiellini, via Sky Sport Italia, was understandably upset:
Still, instead of giving Suarez the attention he doesn't deserve, let's spotlight the performances that actually merit a real discussion.
Like Diego Godin, Suarez's teammate who headed home the game-winning goal in the 81st minute to propel Uruguay to the Round of 16. Amazingly, the center back, who also stifled Mario Balotelli and Ciro Immobile, now has a goal in the Champions League final, a goal to win La Liga for Atletico Madrid and a goal on the world's biggest stage.
BBC's John Bennett put it simply:
Or how about giving Costa Rica some praise? The Ticos drew England in a fairly nondescript 0-0 match Tuesday, but it was enough to cap off a fantastic romp through the "Group of Champions."
ESPN's Paul Carr summarized the impressive feat:
Then there was, Colombia. Sweet, vibrant, clinical Colombia.
The Cafeteros completed their sweep of Group C with a 4-1 victory over Japan, once again looking unbelievably fast and dangerous on the counter attack.
James Rodriguez, for the third match in a row, was on another planet. The 22-year-old came on at halftime yet still managed to tally two assists and a goal, the latter of which was a world-class effort:
Now tied with Karim Benzema for the lead with five contributions to goals (three goals, two assists), the talismanic No. 10 has easily been one of the best players of this tournament. As long as he continues to play at this level, Colombia have to be included in the discussion of favorites to hoist the trophy in Rio de Janeiro.
The final match of the night was unfortunately marred by controversy, as a 92nd-minute penalty was awarded to Greece to help propel Fernando Santos' side to a 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast. It was a decision that broke Ivory Coast hearts and pushed Greece through to the knockout stage.
Still, Greece was the better side for the majority of the match, and it was a difficult call to make in real-time. Heck, even the replays haven't produced a definitive conclusion:
Overall, it was a day that will be defined by teeth and debated referee decisions, but those shouldn't take away from the other tremendous performances in Brazil.
