WWE Main Event Results: Winners, Twitter Reaction and Analysis from April 15
Welcome to Bleacher Report's recap of WWE Main Event. Here is where we take a look at what happened on the show, examining the winners, reactions to matches and any possible ramifications coming out of the program.
We had another week of live programming on the WWE Network, but unlike recent weeks, this episode did not exactly live up to the Main Event name.
Let's take a look at what went down this week, and you can judge for yourself.
Los Matadores vs. 2.5MB
Instead of Heath Slater, we saw Jinder Mahal and Drew McIntyre come to the ring with Hornswoggle dressed as Slater, making them Two and a Half MB, according to Mahal.
This match was pretty average for the first few minutes, but once Hornswoggle and El Torito decided to get in the ring, all hell broke loose.
Once the ref threw out the match and called for the bell, we saw things break down into a Three Stooges sketch. Every wrestler over 5' tall was hit in the groin in some way, leaving Torito and Hornswoggle alone to duke it out.
This is a strange segment for a few reasons. While these kinds of segments are loathed by some fans, others enjoy the comedic moments they can provide.
WWE certainly has the ability to appeal to a lot of fans in different ways. Maybe it's the seven-year-old kid in me, but I didn't hate this like I thought I would.
No Contest
Grade: C-
Note and Highlights:
- This is easily the best way Hornswoggle has been used in a long time. If he were to just randomly show up dressed as other WWE Superstars all the time, I would be his biggest fan.
- In response to seeing Hornswoggle and Torito face off, one of the announcers said, "I've never wanted to see a match more in my life." For some reason, this made me laugh more than anything going on in the ring.
Wade Barrett vs. Sin Cara
This was essentially a squash match for Wade Barrett. Sin Cara didn't even look like he stood a chance, which made this match feel like a waste of time for both men.
Winner: Wade Barrett
Grade: D
Notes and Highlights:
- Sin Cara needs to be in a tag team with Rey Mysterio again. They were pretty fun to watch, even if it was the other guy who played Sin Cara and not the guy under the mask now.
- The crowd seems really split on Barrett. Half love him and half hate him. While that might seem like a bad thing, it's a testament to how well he has connected as a heel.
Divas Battle Royal to Decide No. 1 Contender
I want to like women's wrestling. I really do. So why does WWE make me sit through matches like this? These women work hard, but this just looked unrehearsed and poorly planned.
The only way to describe what we saw would be sloppy. A lot of botched and missed moves made this a pretty awful battle royal.
At least Tamina got the win. She and Paige could surprise people at Extreme Rules if they are given enough time.
Winner: Tamina
Grade: F
Notes and Highlights:
- Do Divas not get a rematch clause after losing their title in WWE storylines? Why doesn't AJ get a rematch right away?
- Eva Marie's music is absolutely terrible. It doesn't fit her character at all.
- The Divas division has to be booked better if they are to be taken seriously. There are plenty of women on the roster who can go in the ring, but WWE seems content with mediocrity at this point.
Jack Swagger vs. Big Show
Big Show dispatched Jack Swagger after Swagger managed to weaken Show's knee quite a bit. Nothing special here.
Swagger and Show have some history, which was totally glossed over, but it would have been nice for the commentators to bring it up.
This was the best match of the night, but that's like being the best Pauly Shore movie. It doesn't mean much.
Winner: Big Show
Grade: C
Notes and Highlights:
- Did anyone else laugh really hard when Zeb Colter lumped Jane Fonda in with Benedict Arnold?
- Swagger has gotten much better at varying his offense. He used to be very repetitive, but teaming with Antonio Cesaro seems to have helped him expand his horizons.
This week's show was not exactly must-see TV. None of the matches stood out, and the show felt crowded with four matches.
Showing the tribute video for The Ultimate Warrior was probably the best part of the show because it was such a well-made video package.
The live format seems to work for Main Event. Hopefully, next week we see a return to form for the show that used to provide us with match-of-the-week candidates.
What did you think of Main Event?
