Analysing Moussa Sissoko's Performance v Hull City
Moussa Sissoko will remember this afternoon's game against Hull City for a long time.
The Newcastle midfielder, employed out on the wing on this occasion, scored twice and played a vital role in his team's 1-4 victory at the KC Stadium.
Not exactly known as a prolific scorer (he came into the tie with only one goal scored all season), Sissoko opened the scoring for Newcastle within ten minutes of the first whistle:
Not content with merely doubling his goals tally, the French midfielder then latched onto a loose ball early in the second half to give his team a 1-3 lead that put the tie away.
In a stunning display of effectiveness, Sissoko only took two shots all game (per WhoScored.com). Fans were quick to point to him as the man of the match:
Sissoko's contributions for Newcastle usually don't involve a lot of scoring, but he was very solid in his normal role of distributing the ball, completing 70% of his passes, according to WhoScored.com. And while he wasn't overly active on the defensive side of the ball (he only made one tackle all game), his work rate was excellent as ever and Newcastle were never truly challenged by the Tigers.
Still, it will be his two goals that people will remember from this game.
As convincing a win as it might have been, not everything went Newcastle's way. Alan Pardew thrust himself firmly into the spotlight when he head-butted Hull's David Meyler in what will surely result in a long suspension.
Sky Sports' Peter O'Rourke shared Pardew's first reaction on the incident:
Pardew's antics may leave Newcastle fans with a sour taste in their mouths, but they should take comfort in the performance Sissoko put forth. Even former teammate Yohan Cabaye took the effort of congratulating his compatriot on his spectacular game.
Newcastle fans better hope the French international can put together a similar performance next week, as the Magpies host Everton at St James' Park.
