During the month of December, WWE broadcasts several pre-taped shows to give its athletes time to be with their families. Of all the events that take place during this period, few have the impact Tribute to the Troops does.
The WWE is giving back to the men and women who protect and serve our nation by putting on a military-themed show for the troops. While the surprise of being a live event is not there for the fans watching at home, the kind gestures of the wrestlers to the soldiers is more than enough to make this an episode worth watching.
Base commander Colonel H. Charles Hodges Jr. told WWE.com about what hosting the annual show means to his troops and their loved ones: "It's a great honor for Joint Base Lewis-McChord to host WWE’s annual Tribute to the Troops show. This is a unique opportunity for our Service members and their families to be a part of something special. Many of our troops are passionate WWE fans, and the excitement is already building."
As if the reason behind the event isn't enough to get fans interested, the card itself isn’t half bad either. With John Cena, C.M. Punk, and Daniel Bryan all scheduled to appear and a full slate of interesting undercard matches, this should be a success for the WWE on NBC.
The company hasn’t shared many images from the pre-taped show, but former WWE star Lisa Marie Varon retweeted an amazing picture of The Shield on a tank at some point during the show:
That visual makes watching this show a must for any wrestling fan.
While nothing of significant note happened at the show, because WWE.com didn’t report anything (e.g. title changes), the sheer amount of talent on the card, the incredible set and the spirit of the event should have every true wrestling fan tuning in Saturday night.
Supporting those who entertain the people who risk their lives for our freedom is the least we can do. If the show inspires you to do more, though, give to the troops.
