Aston Villa looked destined for another scoreless outing before Leandro Bacuna connected inside the final quarter-hour to prevent a fifth straight clean sheet against. Libor Kozak added another late as Villa earned the 2-0 win over Cardiff.
Chelsea benefited from a late penalty call, which allowed Eden Hazard to convert from the spot to secure the Blues a 2-2 draw with West Brom. Samuel Eto'o also scored for Chelsea while Shane Long and Stephane Sessegnon found the net for the Baggies.
Luis Suarez continued his run of outstanding form with two goals, helping pace Liverpool to an easy win over a struggling Fulham side. The triumph moved the Reds into second place, which qualifies as a surprise at this stage given the middling preseason expectations.
Morgan Schneiderlin, Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana scored first-half goals for Southampton, which had no problem with a normally competitive Hull squad. The Saints are getting more impressive with each passing week.
Wrapping up early play on Saturday, Crystal Palace and Everton fought to a goalless draw. The Toffees dominated possession, but couldn't create many scoring chances. It took a couple of key saves from Tim Howard to ensure they earned a point.
A goal from Ravel Morrison gave West Ham a halftime lead over Norwich. The Canaries stormed back after the break, though, scoring three times to earn the victory. The three points were enough for Norwich to leap ahead of West Ham and out of the relegation zone.
Tottenham dominated possession and attempted more than two dozen shots, but Spurs were unable to find the net as their attacking woes continued. Newcastle took advantage to earn three points courtesy of a goal from Loic Remy.
Newcastle jumped into the top half of the table with their win while Tottenham missed an opportunity to move level with Liverpool for second.
Sunderland received a first-half goal from Phil Bardsley and defended the potent Manchester City attack well to score an upset victory. It's just their second win of the campaign and wasn't enough to get them out of the bottom three, but it was a step in the right direction that left City frustrated.
Manchester United got the victory it needed over Arsenal courtesy of a goal from Robin van Persie. The win moved United into fifth place and tightened up the entire title race as seven clubs are within six points of the Gunners' lead.
Finally, Swansea and Stoke played to a surprising 3-3 draw. Neither side had flashed good attacking form during the early stages of the campaign, but managed to combine for six goals, including a stoppage-time equalizer from Stoke's Charlie Adam.
