Joel Quenneville, Eddie Olczyk to Receive Special Honor on Wednesday

Chicago Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville and television broadcaster Eddie Olczyk will be inducted into the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame on Wednesday, a day after the Blackhawks open their preseason at home against the Detroit Red Wings.

Quenneville, who resides in suburban Hinsdale, Ill., will be on hand for the induction, as well as Olczyk.

Quenneville is in his fifth season as the head coach of the Blackhawks and has already won two Stanley Cups, making him the only head coach in Blackhawks' history to achieve that feat. Coach Q is already fourth in games coached for the Hawks with 372, only 15 behind Rudy Pilous for third place in franchise history. Pilous was the coach of Chicago's 1961-62 Stanley Cup champions.

The Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame is located at Hawthorne Race Course in Cicero, Ill., off of Cicero Avenue. The track has hosted horse races since 1891 and seats 35,000.

Originally opened at Soldier Field in 1979, the hall of fame has changed locations multiple times throughout its history before finally moving to its current location.

The Blackhawks boast 22 other inductees in the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame, including Olczyk's broadcast partner Pat Foley, who was inducted in 2002. The two also received an Emmy Award in 2009 for "Outstanding Play-by-Play."

Wednesday will mark the second hall of fame induction in as many years for Olczyk. In 2012, he was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.

Olczyk grew up in Palos Heights, Ill., and attended Brother Rice High School.  He played for the Blackhawks from 1984-87 and again from 1998-00.

This year's other inductees for the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame include the 1963 Loyola University national champion basketball team, former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb and current Louisville men's basketball head coach Rick Pitino.
