PGA Championship 2013 Live Stream: When and Where to Catch Day 2 Action Online

Ryan RudnanskyJun 2, 2018

Adam Scott and Jim Furyk lead the field at the 2013 PGA Championship after the first day at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y.

Each golfer posted a five-under-par 65 on Thursday, one stroke better than Lee Westwood and David Hearn, and one stroke behind the course record jointly held by Ben Hogan and Curtis Strange.

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson both find themselves with a one-over 71 headed into Day 2.

Tiger Woods and 2013 Major Winners

Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods may be several strokes back from the lead after Day 1, but a lot of positive spin was put on his performance on Thursday.

For one, his career first-round scoring average at majors headed into Thursday was 70.9, so his one-over-par 71 wasn't that bad in retrospect, as Justin Ray of ESPN Golf noted:

Secondly, Woods himself said he was pleased with his play at Oak Hill.

Woods said after his round, via Bob Harig of ESPN.com:

"

As I say, I feel like I played well enough and made some nice key putts, and the key is I left it in good spots too. I'm still right there. I mean...as of right now, I'm only six back and we have a long way to go.

"

The crushing blow actually came on Wood's final hole. Starting on the back nine, Woods had posted a one-under par through his first 17 holes, but an ugly double bogey on hole No. 9 ended his day over par.

It is just one day, so it's no time to panic for the 14-time major champion, but he will obviously need to post some better scores moving forward to win the 2013 PGA Championship.

Phil Mickelson

Phil Mickelson got off to a rough start in more ways than one in the early going of the 2013 PGA Championship.

First, he almost forgot to register in time for the major. Then, he could be heard asking where the first hole was.

Then, he posted a bogey and a double bogey on holes 3 and 4, respectively.

"Lefty" settled down, posting four birdies from hole No. 9 on, but then he recorded a double bogey on No. 18.

I'm going to stick to my theory that Mickelson doesn't finish in the top 10 at the PGA Championship this year, primarily based on his lack of driving accuracy (which can kill you at Oak Hill) and his sporadic play in 2013 (after winning the British Open, he placed 21st at the Bridgestone Invitational).

To say Phil has been sporadic so far at Oak Hill would be an understatement.

Adam Scott

The 2013 Masters winner got off to a scintillating start, posting a five-under 65, one stroke short of the course record.

In the process, Scott recorded five straight birdies from holes 4 through 8. His only blemish was a bogey on hole No. 17.

Remember, Scott also registered a third-place finish at the British Open this year. The 33-year-old Aussie has been in the groove.

I picked Scott to be in contention on the final day and I'm obviously sticking with that after what he did on Thursday. His driving accuracy is a bit of a concern overall this year, ranked 90th on tour in the category, but he also ranked second in the field in driving accuracy at the British Open.

He has that look of a player who can contend at almost any given major now (except, maybe, the U.S. Open).

Justin Rose

The 2013 U.S. Open champ didn't start out well, posting a bogey on his first hole.

Then, Rose went on a run, notching four birdies in the span of six holes. The 33-year-old ended the day just like he started it, though, recording a bogey on hole No. 18.

That was nothing new for the field, of course. According to ESPN.com, No. 18 was the second-most difficult hole on Thursday.

In the end, Rose registered a solid two-under 68 on Day 1.

Rose has generally been solid this year, minus the missed cuts at the Players Championship and British Open. Aside from the missed cuts, Rose hasn't placed worse than 25th in 2013. Also, FYI, he placed third at the PGA Championship last year.

I like Rose to be in contention on Day 4. I see him finishing in the top 10 at the 2013 PGA Championship.
