Glorious Goodwood Racing 2013 Results: Friday's Biggest Underdog Victors
Whether it’s money or strictly the love of the game, everyone can find some reason to get behind an underdog.
This week’s action at Glorious Goodwood has already thrown up its share of surprises, but with the weekend’s best action still to come, the shocks haven’t stopped there.
On Friday, another batch of outsiders made their way past the finish line before any other horse could, upsetting the odds in the meantime.

Moviesta
Not the biggest of underdogs, but an underdog nonetheless, Moviesta’s win in the Betfred King George V Stakes dashed the hopes of 3-1 favourite, Tickled Pink.
Part-owned by Queens Park Ranger manager, Harry Redknapp, the 5-1 chance beat Swiss Spirit by one-and-a-half lengths in the end, ridden by Paul Mulrennan.
As the BBC's Francis Keogh points out on Twitter, Redknapp wasn't the only football figure to have a winner at Good wood this week either:
The gelding did well to beat a field containing so many older horses and came in the top two for its fifth consecutive race.
Wentworth
In the highest stakes event of the day, the Betfred Mile produced an unlikely champion after 6-1 shot Wentworth stormed to victory in the sunny Goodwood conditions.
Beating a field of 17 other horses, the three-year-old colt travelled well over the distance and held up his lead against the late challenge from Cape Peron.
Trainer Richard Hannon has now had seven winners at Glorious Goodwood, making for a very favourable trip as far as the Englishman will be concerned.
The prize for Wentworth’s victory was more than £80,000, the biggest pool on offer in Friday’s Goodwood action.
Flying Bear
At a staggering 25-1, Flying Bear may not have won the biggest prize fund of the day for his owners, but will have netted more than a few pounds for some punters with his triumph in the Golf at Goodwood Nursery Handicap.
In a race involving 20 horses, the two-year-old came out on top in just its fourth race as favourite Grecian plummeted down the ranks to finish 10th.
Flying Bear is Jeremy Gask’s first winner at Glorious Goodwood this week and the Australian can be pleased with the progress pulled off by his budding colt.
