Tottenham Transfer Rumours: Spurs Should Accept Gargantuan Offer for Gareth Bale
Gareth Bale is a burgeoning superstar with talent as enticing as anyone in the world. But right now, he's being approached like someone tossed Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo's genes in a bowl, mixed them together and created a superstar monster named Gareth Bale.ย
In more simple terms. He's good, but notย thisย good.ย
If you're wondering what exactly I'm babbling about, FOX Sports is reporting that Real Madrid has made aย world-recordย bid for the Tottenham midfielder:
"Real Madridย have made a world record bid of over ยฃ85m toย Tottenhamย for Gareth Bale, according to reports.
The bid has been on the table for over a week and Bale is aware of it and is becoming more frustrated with the situation.
The bid does not include any Real Madrid players moving to Spurs as part of a package.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is understood to be currently in Miami and his and the club's stance - that the Wales international is not for sale - has not changed.
"
Oh, wow, that's a pretty intriguing offer, but I don't know ifโSELL! But, actually, Bale is far too valuaโACCEPT THE OFFER RIGHT NOW! No, really, he was one of the best players in the world last seasโยฃ85 MILLION!
Seriously, though. If there really is anย ยฃ85 million offer on the table, Tottenham needs to stop everything it's doing and accept it right away.
Listen, there's no denying Bale's talent.ย
The former left-back's first full season as an attacking midfielder went off without a hitch last yearโ21 goals and four assists in 33 EPL appearances, three goals and four assists in the Europa League, countless awards for his excellence.ย
His combination of pace, dribbling ability, passing and finishing make him one of the most dangerous players in the worldโand certainly not someone you give up so easily at the prime age of 24.ย
But once again, my counter point remains:ย ยฃ85 million, which isn't all that far off from this joke from Genius Football:
Let's try to put this in relative terms.
Last summer, Eden Hazard was bought for ยฃ32 million. Granted, there were questions about how his talent was going to transfer from France, and Bale is certainly better. But at this point, is he really over ยฃ50 million better than the flourishing 22-year-old?
Robin van Persie went for ยฃ24 million, Clint Dempsey for ยฃ6 million, Christian Benteke for ยฃ7 million, Park Ji-Sung for ยฃ2 million and Alex Song forย ยฃ15 million.
Combined, all of those transfers equals ยฃ86 million, just one million more than the reported offer for Gareth Bale alone.
If you're not exactly keen on giving up Bale, ask yourself this: Would you trade him for Hazard, Van Persie, Song, Dempsey, Benteke and Park Ji-Sung?ย
The 24-year-old still has room to improve. But during what was a trulyย transcendent, dominant season, he was only able to carry Tottenham to fifth place on the EPL table.
He won't bring Spurs any major titles all by himself. But the money used from selling him could instantly build a stacked roster capable of earning some beautiful silverware.ย
Cutting ties with a player as talented as Bale is always difficult, but this is an offer that is too good to refuse.
