Real Madrid Transfer Rumours: Tottenham Hotspur Must Accept Los Blancos' Offer
Gareth Bale is "deeply unhappy" with Tottenham Hotspur'sย refusal to bring Real Madrid into the fold, according to ESPN FC.
Madrid, as you may know, has launched aย โฌ100 million bid for the 24-year-old midfielder. Bale posted 21 goals and four assists in the Premier League last season.
According to Gary Jacob of The Times, Bale had a "gentlemen's agreement" with Spurs that he would be allowed to leave if he received a sizeable bid. That bid has come, but bidders be gone, at least according to Spurs.
The ยฃ86.3 million bid for Bale exceeds theย ยฃ80 million bid Madrid paid Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo back in 2009. That, in itself, should be enough for Spurs to accept Madrid's offer.
Yes, Bale is an incredible young player, but you are basically saying Bale is better than Ronaldo if you pay that sum, and that is not the case.
While Bale recorded the fifth-highest rating among players in the EPL, Ligue 1, Bundesliga, Serie A and La Liga last season, according to WhoScored.com, he didn't surpass Ronaldo (obviously), who posted the third-highest rating.
Yet, still, Spurs are reluctant to accept such a sum. Is this gamesmanship? Is it poor ownership? Perhaps both.
Spurs simply cannot turn down such a bid. It's a ludicrous amount of money. Yes, Bale is undeniably Spurs' star, but Tottenham finished fifth in the EPL last season. Keeping him alone is not going to give Spurs the EPL crown. With the amount of money Madrid is offering, Tottenham could gradually add a wealth of talent across the pitch, which is what Spurs needs.
You can either be in title contention in the EPL, or out of it. Tottenham is currently out of it, and retaining Bale isn't going to solve anything.
In order for Spurs to get over the hump, Andre Villas-Boas and Co. must depart with Bale. Given the amount of money being offered, Spurs shouldn't even think twice.
