Kevin Durant Dominates at Drew League, Proves He's Ready for 2013-14 NBA Season

Alex KayJun 6, 2018

Kevin Durant showed out at the Drew League in Los Angeles this weekend, putting on a dazzling display for the many fans in attendance and a multitude of cameras.

As per Brian Josephs of Complex Sports, the Oklahoma City Thunder superstar piled in 35 points and pulled down 17 rebounds in the pro-am contest—an impressive enough feat, considering it was clear he wasn’t giving 100 percent effort at all times.

At one point, he split the defense—and I use that term lightly—to throw down a powerful one-handed jam off the dribble.

Unfortunately, when it came down to winning the game, Durant just wasn’t able to get it done.

LAUNFD wound up losing, 92-90, to Money Gang—featuring Metta World Peace and Demar DeRozan—after KD missed a three that would have given his side the “W.”

The 6’9” swingman brought the ball past half court and took a few dribbles, rose up and fired in the face of his defender.

As he was walking backwards in the “gooseneck” pose, the ball hit the rim and bounced out—something Durant was certainly not expecting.

As he has in numerous NBA situations, Durant went to his deadly long-range shot to try and suck the life out of the opponent, but was not able to get it to drop.

Regardless, the promising display of handles, scoring and rebounding against some decent competition should give OKC fans hope for the coming campaign.

Durant has made it known that he is tired of being regarded as the second-best player in basketball and is looking to finally push past LeBron James to claim the spotlight.

After the Thunder were forced out of the 2013 playoffs early—largely due to Russell Westbrook’s devastating season-ending injury—Durant has wisely decided to continue playing ball and working on his game this summer.

It should pay off when the 2013-14 campaign begins in late October, as the 24-year-old superstar begins his quest to claim his first MVP award and win his first championship.

Although it won’t be easy to dethrone King James in the prime of his career, KD has the dedication and is striving to improve upon his already elite, well-rounded skills.

If he keeps it up and puts in the work, there is no telling just how special Durant’s 2013-14 campaign could be. It may even end up with the Thunder hoisting the Larry O’Brien Trophy and with Durant being named the Finals MVP.
