Rating the Barcelona Players in 7-0 Win Against Valerenga
Barcelona strolled to a 7-0 win in Oslo on Saturday evening against Norwegian side Valerenga; Jean Marie Dongou (2), Alexis Sanchez, Cristian Tello, Lionel Messi, Jonathan dos Santos and Joan Roman had the goals.
Still without their Brazilian and Spanish players who competed at the Confederations Cup, Barca went with the same 11 whom started in Germany against Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.
With Gerardo Martino watching from the stands, Jordi Roura and Rubi remained in charge and made three changes at half-time and a further eight after an hour.
The Blaugrana shirt was adorned by 22 players in total during the win, here are the Barcelona match ratings...
1st-Half Team
1 of 2Jose Pinto: 6
Did he have anything to do? He was practically redundant for the 45 minutes he kept goal.
Martin Montoya: 6
Crossed for a Messi chance after 30 minutes, but he didn't show as much attacking ability as this match might have afforded him the opportunity to. Defensively sound.
Marc Bartra: 6
Marc Bartra had little to do as he sat back and watched his side score six times before being substituted on the hour.
Javier Mascherano: 6
The Argentinian stored 60 minutes in the bank but will have gained little from having nothing to do against the Norwegian side.
Adriano: 7
Adriano showed an early will to get forward and take on players in the final third, although he had very little to do from a defensive point of view.
Jonathan Dos Santos: 7
Dos Santos got forward to collect and finish well at the goalkeeper's near post following good work from Alexis. He was occasionally sloppy in possession, though.
Alex Song: 6
Alex Song left the game at half-time, but he kept things ticking in what would have been a more-than-comfortable 45 minutes for him.
Sergi Roberto: 8
One of his, what could become trademark, forward runs laid on Barca's third for Messi. Another run allowed Messi to hit the post minutes later, and another should have seen Alexis add a fourth. Admittedly against inferior opposition, it was one of his better Barcelona performances.
Alexis Sanchez: 9
Alexis Sanchez scored one and made three as he lived up to his senior status in the Barcelona side on Saturday evening.
He cut inside and produced a left-foot finish for the first goal of Barca's preseason after four minutes. He then set up the fourth, for Dos Santos, and the fifth and sixth, for Dongou, while demonstrating his confidence with a cheeky back-heel pass to Montoya in the first half.
Lionel Messi: 8
Lionel Messi was head and shoulders above everyone else on the pitch, and everyone knew it. His sublime through ball for Tello's goal after six minutes came moments after he'd played the pass for Alexis's goal too.
He showed good feet to score one for himself and would have had two but for the post.
Cristian Tello: 7
His calm finish after six minutes, under the keeper, was never really built on. While Messi and Alexis were thriving, things didn't quite come off for Tello, who played on the left of Barca's front three.
Substitutes
2 of 2Oier Olazabal: 6 (Replaced Pinto, 45)
Oier Olazabal made a low save low to his left after an hour, but he made a slight mess out of a far post header straight at him after 70 minutes.
Kiko Femenia: 6 (Replaced Montoya, 60)
Like the man who played the first hour before him, Kiko Femenia didn't attack as in great depth. He did, however, see more action defensively in his area of the pitch.
Carles Planas: 6 (Replaced Mascherano, 60)
Had more to do than Mascherano and Bartra, but Carles Planas will possibly be disappointed to have ceded a couple of chances to the opposition's attack.
Sergi Gomez: 6 (Replaced Bartra, 60)
Like Planas, Sergi Gomez will have been disappointed to have allowed Valerenga a couple of shots on goal. All in all, though, he will be happy to have kept a zero next to Barca's name.
Patric: 7 (Replaced Adriano, 60)
Naturally a midfielder, Patric, like against Bayern Munich, replaced Adriano at left-back. He linked play well when needed and looked more assured defensively than Kiko.
Sergi Samper: 6 (Replaced Song, 45)
One of the younger members of the Barcelona B squad, Sergi Samper was thrown on at half-time. He sat as the deepest of the three midfielders and was good on the ball, although perhaps not involved enough.
Ilie Sanchez: 6 (Replaced Dos Santos, 60)
Ilie Sanchez took the captain's armband after the hour and had an assured, if not spectacular, performance in the middle of the park.
Javier Espinosa: 7 (Replaced Roberto, 60)
A good technical player, Javier Espniosa neatly linked up play, particularly with Roman, and drove an effort, teed up Ilie, marginally wide after 78 minutes.
Joan Roman: 7 (Replaced Tello, 60)
Weight and timing of one particular pass to Nieto was good, and Joan Roman demonstrated a great understanding with Espinosa at times. Roman got on the score sheet, too, following neat Barca-style football. He cut inside and finished well on his right foot inside the last 10 minutes.
Jean Marie Dongou: 8 (Replaced Messi, 45)
Only 18 in April, the young Cameroon striker replaced Messi at half-time. He made an immediate impact, adding Barca's fifth with a neat finish early in the second half, from Alexis's assist, before tapping in a second after a winding Alexis run shortly after.
Dani Nieto: 6 (Replaced Alexis, 60)
An impressive run and one-two with Espinosa led to the youngster smashing a whirling effort just over from 18 yards; he should have done better minutes later when Roman put him through on the right, though.
He works good positions but often flatters to deceive.
